MILTON HENRY GASSER

Milton Henry Gasser is the president of the Gasser Coffee Company of Toledo, a business that has been in existence since 1906. Previous to its organization Mr. Gasser was employed along the same line; so that he brought broad knowledge and experience to bear in the conduct of his own affairs. Success has attended the undertaking from the beginning and the business is today one of large and profitable proportions. Mr. Gasser is numbered among the native sons of Lucas county, Ohio, his birth having occurred at Auburndale, April 20, 1869, his parents being Joseph and Elmira (Gordnier) Gasser. He initiated his commercial career as a clerk with the Milburn Wagon Company and afterward he became a salesman for a coffee manufacturing house, with which he remained for fifteen years. He steadily worked his way upward in that connection and for five years was sales manager of the business, thus directing the expansion and development of the trade. He became familiar with every phase of the coffee business, and actuated by a laudable ambition, he carefully saved his earnings until he felt that his capital and experience justified his embarkation in a similar enterprise. Accordingly, in 1906 he organized the Gasser Coffee Company, of which he has since been the president, and the steady growth of the business is indicated in the fact that the employes of the company now number one hundred. The trade covers a wide territory and the house is famed for the excellence of the product which it handles, as well as for the reliable business methods employed in caring for the patrons.

On the 14th of November, 1893, Mr. Gasser was married to Miss Blanche Bassler, a native of Pennsylvania, and they have an interesting family of five children : Raymond Fell, Leonard Milton, Carolyn Virginia, Alice Blanche and Eleanor Ruth. The religious faith of the family is that of the Trinity Episcopal church. Mr. Gasser belongs also to the Masonic fraternity and is a loyal follower of the teachings of the craft as well as of the religious organization with which he is identified. He belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and to the Toledo Club and the Toledo Yacht Club. He is a valued member of the Rotary Club and was the first vice president following its organization. In a word, his aid and influence are ever on the side of advancement and his ideals in all lines which affect the general welfare, are high. When leisure permits he turns to golf and

fishing for recreation and is a most companionable gentleman on trips of this character. MILTON EDWARD GOLDMANN

Statistics show that failure or mediocre success awaits the majority of those who enter upon business activities. The cause of this is found in a lack of persistency of purpose and inadequacy of judgment in the valuation of opportunities and conditions. Milton Edward Goldmann, however, seems well qualified in all those things which go to make for success, as through individual effort he has become one of the prominent cloak manufacturers of the country, being today the president of the firm of The Cohen, Friedlander & Martin Company. He is a native son of Toledo, born September 15, 1878, his parents being Edward and Fannie (Gusdorff) Goldmann. The father was a merchant who first came to Toledo in 1866 and was thereafter closely associated with the commercial interests of the city.

The son, Milton Edward Goldmann, was educated in the Toledo public schools and in the Toledo University and initiated his business career by entering the employ of Cohen, Friedlander & Martin in the capacity of stock clerk in 1897. Gradually he has won advancement until eventually he became a stockholder and officer of the company and in 1922 was chosen to the presidency. Something of the vast volume of business controlled by the company is indicated in the fact that they employ four hundred people at the Toledo plant and about an equal number in other plants. working exclusively for them in Cleveland and at other points. They manufacture the well known "Redfern" coats and suits and find a ready sale for the output, holding to high standards in workmanship and in business methods, so that their patronage has steadily grown and developed.

Mr. Goldmann is a member of the Masonic fraternity and also belongs to the Progress Club of Toledo and to the Criterion Club of New York. He enjoys golf, fishing and travel and turns .to these for recreation, bringing him relief from the onerous cares of an extensive business. Throughout his life he has carefully improved his opportunities and made good use of his advantages and his entire career is an indication of what can be accomplished through individual effort, intelligently directed.

ZALE A. REUBEN

Zale A. Reuben, the first vice president of the Reuben Realty Company of Toledo, was born in this city on the 27th of November, 1894. where he started in the real estate business and through the intervening period he has operated along this line. In 1911 he became associated with his brother, Al E. Reuben, under the style of the Reuben Realty Company. Since that time the business has constantly grown, the number of their clients increasing year by year, so that after a time they were obliged to seek enlarged quarters and today occupy the commodious ground floor offices at Nos. 607 and 609 Madison avenue. Even with what formerly seemed a spacious suite the Reuben organization is now cramped for space and plans are being discussed concerning the remodeling and construction of a model real estate building on the property at 311 Superior street, which was purchased by the company for office purposes two years ago. Their plan is to build on that site one of the most complete real estate buildings in the country—one that will house their attorneys, architects, building and insurance departments and all the other branches of a thoroughly modern and up-to-date realty organization. Steady advancement has marked the trend of business under the direction of the Reuben Company, which has long occupied a place in the front ranks of the realtors of Toledo. The brothers have platted twenty-eight additions, which have featured largely not only in the city's expansion but also in its adornment, and they are now planning to place several more allotments on the market. They are continually seeking out new fields for their activity and show marked initiative in carrying on the business. The Reuben Realty Company was incorporated in 1915 and they have specialized since in handling subdivision properties, one of these being Reno-by-the-Lake, comprising nine hundred and forty-seven acres, another being Elmwood Park in West Toledo, containing two hundred and fifty building sites. Still another is the Gorny addition, comprising six hundred building lots. The company also maintains in connection with the sale of realty an extensive building department for the purpose of erecting homes and they employ seventy-five people. Zale A. Reuben is the first vice president of this company, with his brother as the president, and he is also the secretary and a director of the Toledo Mortgage Company. The brothers have conducted their interests along the most progressive lines. The labors of the one seem amply to supplement and round out the labors of the other, making this a strong and resourceful firm, while their interests and activities are constantly expanding and have now reached mammoth proportions.

Mr. Reuben makes his home with his brother. Fraternally he is connected with the Masonic lodge and also with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He is well known to the membership of the Toledo Yacht Club and the Oliver Park Riding Club, in which his geniality and good cheer are considered valuable assets, while the circle of his friends, not only through club relationship but in other walks of life as well, is constantly increasing.
