PREFACE

This is the story of the first century of the existence of Maumee City. The history here presented is little more than the records of what has been done by others, gleaned from original source material by the untiring labor of a faithful scribe.

His purpose has been to assemble the records in a condensed form rather than a narrative, losing sight of minor incidents, to give prominence to the great events which loom before our eyes as we gaze back, over the road of our Pilgrimage to portray as many of the Pioneers of Maumee City as is practical to present those incidents, both general and individual, which most engage the attention and curiosity of people, to trace changes and developments, to set forth causes of advancement or decline, to preserve for future generations the story of noble deeds as an example for further achievements.
