She was married to Willis BARGER on Nov 22 1915. Willis BARGER1 was born on Oct 16 1881. He died on Sep 7 1962 in Marion, OHIO.
In 1912 Ralph and Fern moved to Marion and Ralph began working at the Huber Manufacturing Company, makers of heavy road equipment, such as Steam Rollers and graders. He and Fern bought the home at 153 North Seffner Avenue for $2,000. They lived there seventy years, until their deaths. He was a caller-fiddler for barn dances in the old "Red Barn" east of Marion for a number of years.
In the late 1920's he developed Tuberculosis and spent about three years in the Sanatorium at Mt. Vernon, OHIO. While in Mt. Vernon, he studied electricity and upon his release, went to work at the Huber Manufacturing Company in Marion. He semi-retired in 1962 at age 65, but continued to work at the Huber three days a week until age 75. He installed all the electrical work and changed the Huber from gaslight and steam power to the modern age of electricity during the 1930's and 1940's. He retired as Chief Electrician/Maintenance Supervisor.
At age 65, he decided to replace his old Franklin Stove with a modern forced-air gas furnace. He dug and finished the basement by hand.
At age 76, he bought a newer automobile and it was too long for his garage, whereupon he mixed and poured by hand, 16 feet of cement at the front of the garage, moved the garage forward and added sixteen feet onto the back of the garage to accommodate his new car.
He was a member and Elder of Trinity Baptist Church from the time he and Fern moved to Marion. He baptized grandsons Jerry Wingett, Ralph R. (Buddy) Wingett, John David Barnhart and Larry Barnhart.
He and Fern were the last of the "Wingett's" to regularly attend the Wingett reunions. August 8, 1982 was the day of the Wingett Reunion. His daughter Emily came to pick he and Fern up to take them, but Ralph said he didn't feel well and was having trouble breathing. Emily took him to Marion General Hospital where he was diagnosed as having a tumorous growth at the junction of his esophagus and bronchial tubes. He was given Cobalt therapy, but developed complications including blood clots in his legs which the doctors were unable to clear up. He went into a coma several days later. His grandson, John Barnhart, flew from California to be at his side. Ralph woke up long enough to recognize John and then slipped back into the coma, passing away at 2:30 A.M., August 23, 1982.
He and Fern are buried in Bryn Zion Cemetery, five miles east of Mount Gilead, OHIO on State Route 42 and about 2 miles west of Williamsport.
Most of the Winget's from Franklin (Ralph's Grandfather) to their children, including Emily Dale Barnhart and George Graham Wingett are buried in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
Fern's parents, Seth and Melissa Graham are also buried at Bryn Zion.
He was married to Hazel Fern GRAHAM on Dec 23 1911 in Mt Gilead , OHIO. Hazel Fern GRAHAM1 was born on Sep 30 1892 in Morrow County, OHIO. She died on Sep 21 1984 in Marion, OHIO. Hazel Fern (always known as Fern) was a woman who was fairly out-spoken, although she really had a heart of gold. During her lifetime, she made a home for several children, including Evelyn (Batchelder) Hardin and her son George and his family, when they moved back to Marion from Indianapolis, IN.
She was extremely active in Trinity Baptist Church activities, including various circles, the choir and Sunday School. Fern probably held every office available to a woman at Trinity during her many active years there.
She was also a pianist, and was a founding member of the Eastside Mother Singers of Marion which was very well-known and respected in the Central Ohio area.
This author, John Barnhart, a grandson, remembers Grandma Fern teaching him to accompany songs on the piano, using the three primary chords in several keys, a necessity which he uses to this day in everything from teaching piano, guitar and Music Theory courses to accompanying various activities at the piano on a moment's notice.
Fern was very active as a "Gray Lady" for the Red Cross during W.W. II. She also was a very regular Blood Donor and received her "10 gallon" pin several times.
Her home was always open (the back door was never locked) and I spent many hours at Grandma and Grandpa's, watching Grandpa work in his garage, picking and canning cherries from their tree, anxiously awaiting Grandma's grand dinners (especially liver and Onions on Wednesday evening {they were the best!]), and sampling Grandpa's Concord Grape Juice (if Grandma hadn't found that it had fermented into wine and threw it away) and listening to the Lone Ranger on the "Monkey" Ward Radio on Wednesday nights at 6:30.
