The following will abstracts, as well as the preceding list of marriages and most of the tombstone records given herein, have been gathered and arranged. by Mr. William P. Hanna. It is to his industry and painstaking care in the preparation of this data that the readers of the present volume are indebted for what it. is safe to say, is the largest and most valuable collection of material for family history that has ever been published in any similar single volume work on county history in Ohio or elsewhere. These will abstracts alone will furnish more information about the families of the early settlers of Harrison county than is contained in a dozen of the usual. "Biographical Encyclopedias," which are sold in such large numbers throughout the country. At the same time, there is much information about the membership of a family that is not always to be found in a will. Many of the wills mention but one or two names of the family, when there may be half a dozen members. In examining the following abstracts, therefore, it is not to be taken for granted that they give the exact extent of the family at the time the will is written. In attempting to trace the genealogy of one's family from these will abstracts, the record may be pieced out in many cases by reference to the list of marriages, and to the burial lists given elsewhere.
