ADAMS TOWNSHIP.
JOHN ALTMAN, born in Germany, January 22, 1840. Accompanied with his wife he cattle to Cleveland, Ohio, June 8.1808, remaining there until October 22, 1880, when he removed to Lucas County and settled in Adams Township. He married Mary Lehr, .June 27, 1863, who also was born in Germany, September 28, 1839. They have four children, three boys and one daughter, born as follows : Joseph, born May 5, 1864; Jacob, born January 28, 1870; George, born September 1, 1874 ; Mary, born August 30, 1878. Mr. Altman has been a member of the school board. His address is Oak Grove, Ohio.
JOSEPH BEACH was born in Germany, June 14, 1826. Came to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1852. Married Catharine Dickard in 1850, a resident of Cleveland. Air. Beach enlisted August 29, 1862, in the 124th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, remaining with the regiment for about nine months, after which, on account of sickness, he was on detached duty at Columbus, Ohio, and Louisville, Kentucky. He afterwards joined his regiment and was mustered out with it July 15, 1865. He came to Lucas County, and settled in Adams Township November 15, 1871. Mr. Beach was awarded a pension for disability received in the service. Is a member of Forsyth Yost, Toledo, Ohio, No. 15. Has been Township Trustee. Address is Toledo, Ohio.
V. BARGY. Born in Herkimer County, New York, January, 1821. Came to Lucas County about 37 years ago, and settled in Toledo. Married about 1852 to Adeline Freeman. The result of this marriage was six children, two of whom are dead.
JOHN BAUMBERGER was born in the City of Berne, Switzerland, .June 3, 1833. He came to America in 1855. The same year he married Elizabeth Burkhart, in Toledo. They have four sons and three daughters: John, Frank, Elizabeth, Anna, William, Clara and Albert. Mr. Baumberger served during one enlistment in the late War, and at its close received an honorable discharge. e has been Supervisor of Adams Township. In politics is a Democrat. Is a gardener. Post Office address is Toledo,
J. D. BOWEN, a son of Solman and Abigail (Underwood) Bowen, has, for a quarter of a century, lived in Adams Township. His father was born February 20, 1800, in the Township of Putnam, Canada; afterwards settled in Vermont, and in the Fall of 1800 removed to Lucas County with his family. Solman Bowen married Miss Abigail Underwood in 1830. They had two children: William M., who died during the War, while serving in Company B, Second Ohio Cavalry, and the subject of this sketch, who was married February 18, 1858, to Betsey L. Hosmer, They had four children, two of whom are living, Mr. Bowen's address is Richards, Ohio.
JOSEPH G. CASS was born in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, October 7, 1807. His father, Barnard Cass, and the father of General Lewis Cass, were half-brothers. Mr. J. G. Cues came to Lucas County in 1832, buying 160 acres of land, on which he still resides. In 1833 he was married to Miss Mary Wilson, of Knox County, Ohio. They raised a family of 12 children, five of them, three boys and two girls, still living. Mrs. Mary Cass died January 2, 1870. Three of their sons (all that were old enough) were engaged in the late civil war. Samuel W. was a member of Battery H, 1st Ohio Light Artillery, for over two years, was then transferred to the U. S. Signal Corps' and served there for the balance of his three years. He now resides in Toledo, and is engaged in the sale of agricultural implements. Charles Milton was a member of Company K, 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, was wounded and permanently disabled at the battle of Cross Keys, Virginia. Died April 11, 1871, from the effects of disease contracted while in the service. Wm. H. was a member of Battery H, 1st Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery. Died August 2, 1864, before his term of service expired, from disease contracted while in the line of duty. Chester L. Cass lives in Columbia City, Indiana, in the woolen mill business. Joseph W. lives on the farm with his father. Martha A. married L. E. Beardsley, a photographer of Defiance, Ohio ; Harriet S. married S. E. Hinkle, a farmer of Lyons, Fulton County, Ohio. Joseph G. Cass, the subject of this sketch, married for his second wife, Miss Ellen A. Farquhar, of Coshocton County Ohio, on July 2, 1878.
SAMUEL HARMON COLLINS, born January 28, 1836, in Jefferson County, New York. Settled in Ohio about 1837, locating at Maumee, where he remained about five years, then removed to Williams County. Here he resided until he was seventeen years old, and then went to Steuben County, Indiana, remaining until 1862, when he settled in Lucas County. Married February 1, 1857, to Clarinda J. Shank, the result of this union being five children.
CYRUS DAVIS has lived in Adams Township since 1852. He was born in the town of Bristol, Maine, July 0, 1814. June 8, 1834, he married Miss Hannah T. Clark, of Hope, Waldo County, Maine. For many years Mr. Davis has been a farmer and carpenter. His politics are Republican. He has four children, viz.: Emily C., Dollie L., Augustus A. and Charles F. Charles F. served in the late War under Captain G. W. Norton, in the First Ohio Light Infantry. Mr. Cyrus Davis receives his mail at Toledo.
CHARLES H. DENNISS was born in Littleport, England, May 15, 1847. Came to Ashtabula County, Ohio, May 14, 1872, and March 17, 187.., moved to Lucas County. Married January 11, 1874, Helen Drury, who was also born in England. Has three sons. Address is Toledo, Ohio.
ORIN C. DORITY, born February 27, 1845, in New York State. Moved to the State of Michigan when 11 years of age and remained until 1860, when he settled in Lucas County, where he now resides. Married February 27, 1872, to Marian Warren, of Adams Township, and the result of this marriage was five children, one of whom is now deceased. Mr. Dority enlisted in Battery H, Ohio Light Artillery, and served three years during the War with honor to himself and country.

CHARLES P. DORITY, born April 18, 1822, in New York State. Moved from there into Michigan in 1853 and remained until 1860, when he settled in Adams Township (then Carey Township), where he has remained since. Married .June 1, 1840, to Olive Bates, who was born in New York State. Have had twelve children, seven of whom are living.
MICHAEL DOOLEY was a native of County Galway, Ireland, where he was born in the year 1826. When about twenty years of age he came to America. he lived for many years in Cleveland and Henry County, Ohio. Ten years ago he moved to Lucas County, and resided upon his farm in Adams Township until his death, February 3,1888. In 1852 he married Catharine O'Rourke, of Cleveland. They had a large family of children; those living are Delia, Margaret. Michael Jr., Thomas, James B., John and Agnes. Margaret married John King, of Maumee. Mr. Dooley was a leading Democrat of his town. For many years he was engaged in farming.
ANTON FLEIG served in the late Rebellion as a member of the 128th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted November 15, 1863, and remained until the close of the war, and with his Regiment was mustered out at Columbus, Ohio, July, 1865. Mr. Fleig was born in Baden, Germany, October 18, 1838, and came with his mother and sister to Lucas County May 9, 1859. He married Miss Caroline Selver, January, 1867. They have seven children. He has held several Township offices. Address, Toledo, Ohio.
ROBERT W. FREEMAN was born in Vermont, in the year 1828. At ten years of age he came to Lucas County with his parents. They settled in the vicinity of Toledo, and he has always lived here. December 28, 1859, he married Miss Julia McMillan. Three daughters and one son bless their union, viz.: William W., Ivie L., Ada B., and Maud M. In politics Mr. F. is Republican. For many years his occupation has been that of a gardener. Post Office address, Toledo.
WILLIAM W. FREEMAN is a son of Robert W. and Julia Freeman. He is a native of Toledo, was born January 12, 1863. June 2, 1886, he married Miss Anna Clark. They have one child. His business is that of gardening. In politics is Republican. Post Office address, Toledo.
JOSEPH GLANZMAN, born in Switzerland, February 15, 1815. Came to America in 1848, and settled in Perrysburg. Spent two years in Ottawa County. Came to Toledo in 1858. In 1860 came to present farm. Married, 1848, Anna Ensh. Seven children are living, two dead. Has held the office of School Director. Is Republican in politics.
MRS. ELIZABETH GOODRICH, born in New York State April 11, 1811, and married when twenty-two years of age to Jasper Goodrich, who died in 1879. She has lived in Lucas County about b5 years. Twelve children were born to them, of whom six are now living.
IGNATIUS GAUTHIA. was born in Germany, in 1b21. He came to America in 18:10. Mrs. Mary Gautnia, his wife, was born August 24, 1829. She came to the United States in 1898. They were married at Toledo in 1853. They have a large family: Joseph, born December 9, 1854; Adaline, born May 20,1856; Julia, born January 15,1858; Frances, born April 15, 1860; Rosa, born March 15, 1862; Maggie, born May 5, 1864; Ignatius, born April 15, 1866; Alexander, born March 21, 1808; Josephine. born. February 18, 1871. They have lived in Adams Township, Lucas County, for many years.
MARTIN GLENNON was born in Maumee, November 10, 1844. He has lived many years in Adams Township; is married and has four children.
JOHN HALPIN, born in Clare, Ireland, May 17, 1814. Came to United States June, 1829, locating in Onondaga County, New York State. Removed to Niagara County, where he remained for a short time, then came to Toledo, Ohio, October 26, 183:3. His journey from Buffalo was made on board the " Daniel Webster." Mr. Halpin has held Township offices, been Marshal, and has held the office of Deputy Sheriff under the administration of both Republicans and Democrats. He married Miss Mary Cooney, of Monroe County, Michigan, June 20, 1838. Three children, two boys and one daughter, are living. Mrs. Halpin died in 1877.
THOMAS HALPIN, born in Toledo, Ohio, May 16, 1851. Married Mary Schordt, October 26, 1880. They have three children, one boy and two girls. Mr. Halpin is a member of the Knights of Labor, No. 2891.
HENRY V. HAWKINS, born October 23, 1834. in Troy, Now York. Came to Lucas County March 9, 1865, locating in Adams Township, where he now resides. He married Miss Susan Lape, of Rensselaer County, New York, March 20, 1863. They have had four sons, all of whom are living on the farm with their parents, born as follows : George H., July 29, 1864; William L., May 26, 1866; Thomas A., July 20, 1870, and Herbert V., December 29, 1875. The parents of Mr. Hawkins, Thomas and Fannie (Miller) Hawkins, are still living on a portion of his farm. His father was born in Providence, Rhode Island, February 29, 1794. His mother March 20, 1805. They removed to Adams Township in 1871, where they now (1886) in their ripe old age, are enjoying rest. Henry V. Hawkins is at present Justice of the Peace, and has been for the preceding two years, He is a Republican in political faith. Is a member of Rubicon Lodge, No. 237, of Toledo.
FREDRICK HOFFMAN is a native of Germany. he was born April 18, 1818. he came to the United States in 1837, and for several years resided in Coshocton County. Came to Lucas County in 1845, where he has since made his home. Although his occupation is farming, he is well versed in phrenology. He has four children living, viz.: Louisa, Sarah, Cora and Bernard. e has been Superintendent of Highway of Adams Township two terms. He is neutral in politics. His Post Office address is Toledo.
ALFRED D. JONES was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, November 24, 1829. In 1860 he went to Erie County, Ohio. After living there five years he moved to Lucas County. For many years he was a manufacturer of woolen goods. In 1860 he married Miss Julina Lyman. They have two children, Lina M. and Birdie N. Mr. Jones has filled several political offices in his township, having been Justice of the Peace, Trustee, etc. He is a Republican. His Post Office address is Toledo.
JAMES KITTLE is a native of New York State, born July 29, 1846. he moved to Lucas County in the year 1856. He married Miss Carrie E. Bates, of Adams Township, October 9, 1873. They have four children, viz.: Frank C., Mertie E., Birdie E. and Ettie. Occupation farmer. Post Office address, Toledo, Ohio.
JACOB KRAMER, born June 21, 1834, in Germany. e came to America about 1854, and settled in Adams Township in 1881. Married August 17, 1801. Mr. Kramer served during the War of the Rebellion with honor.
JOHN LINNENKUGEL, born in Lucas County August 16, 1856, and has since resided here. Married November 25, 1879, to Mary Beach, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio. They have three children.

ALONZO LANE was born in Norwalk, Ohio, May 23, 1831; came to Lucas County 1839. During 1855 was Turnkey under Sheriff Springer, and was an Assistant Sheriff the next year. December 18, 1858, he married Mary A. Driver. They have seven children living : Henry, Etta, Cora, Frank, Charles, Dora and Lewis. Etta has taught the Oak Grove School several terms. Mr. Lane served 12 years as clerk of Adams Township. He is a staunch Republican. Post Office address, Toledo.
ANSON N. LAPE, born in New York, Rensselaer County, December 16, 1846. Married Miss Theresa N. Harris, who was born in Boston, Massachusetts, May 22, 1851. They have one daughter, Nina S., born June 6, 1873. Mr. Lape has been School Director for two years. He firmly supports the Democratic principles. He has been a Mason since eligible; is now a member of Rubicon Lodge, No. 237, Toledo.
EDWARD McGLEIN, born in Kings County, Ireland, May 10, 1803. Came to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York, in the year 1832, and in 1839 removed to Maumee, Lucas County, Ohio. Married in Brooklyn to Margaret Strain (who too was a native of Ireland), in the year 1836. The result of this marriage is three children.
JAMES McLAUGHLIN was born in Toledo, October 3, 1860. After attending school he was associated with his father in farming. In June, 1884, he married Miss Bridget Higgins, of Toledo. Two children bless his fireside, viz.: Ellen and Mary J. In politics he supports the Democratic party. He is engaged in farming. Post Office address, Toledo.
JOHN MEYER, born in Switzerland, 1853. Came to America in 1872 and settled in Adams Township, Lucas County, where he has remained ever since. Married in 1876, and the result of this marriage has been two children, both of whom are living. Mr. Meyer is a farmer.
JOHN MILLER, born in Adams Township, Lucas County, 1856, where he has since resided. Married Theresa Kritzer. Have had two children, one of whom is dead. Mr. Miller is a farmer.
CHARLES McTAGUE is a native of County Letrim, Ireland, where he was born in 1812. He came to the United States in 1841. After living in Canada, New York City and Buffalo, New York, he located in Lucas County in 1851. By hard work and integrity he has laid by a competency so that the latter end of his life's journey is smooth and peaceful. His wife is about his age, and does all she can to make their home pleasant. They have had a large family. It consists of three sons and two daughters: Morris, Charles, Thomas, Anna and Mary Ellen. For many years Mr. McT. has been a firm supporter of the Jeffersonian form of government. he has a fine farm in Adams Township. His Post Office address is Toledo.
REV. J. E. MOORE as born in Pickaway County, Ohio, August 9, 1841. In September, 1865, he entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and began his work at Portsmouth, Ohio. In October, 1865, he married Miss Mary F. Graham, of Fayette County, Ohio. He has resided in Lucas County since 188.5. He has three daughters and two sons: Etta G., Minnie G., Gilbert H., William G., and Mary J. Since his first vote he has been a Republican. Post Office address, Toledo, Ohio.
SAMUEL H. NASON, born in the State of Maine October 5, 1794. He left his native State June 20, 1836, made the voyage to Toledo all the way by water, and settled in Maumee for three years and then settled in Adams Township (then Sylvania). Married in 1818 to Eliza Parker, also of the State of Maine, whose father. Enoch Parker, was a distant relative of Sir Peter Parker of Revolutionary fame. His wife died in 1878. Four children were born to them, of whom only one son, Moses, is now living. He was born May 31, 1830, and married Sarah N. Ten Eyck, and is the father of five children, two of whom are dead.
MRS. SUSAN P. NEWBIRT is a native of Maine, where she was born September 21, 1829. She became a widow January 16, 1883. Thirty-seven years ago she came with her husband to Lucas County and located in Adams Township. Her family consists of eight children, viz.: Edward, Mary, Josiah, William, Emma, Charles, Hannah and Addie. She resides on a fine farm. Her mail is addressed to Toledo, Ohio, Hickory Box.
G. W. NORTON was born in Depauville, New York, August 10, 1818. Resides in Adams Township on the farm he purchased February, 1854. Married, ,June 5, 1850, Miss Elizabeth Thompson, of Alexandria, Jefferson County, New York; who was born in Danube, Herkimer County, New York, December 13, 1828, and died in Adams Township, July 25, 1876 Seven children blessed their union: Flora E., born May 13, 1851, married July 31, 1878, to Rev. J. T. Pope. of the M. E. Church; Charles H., born October 25, 1852, in Clayton, New York, died July 3, 1882 (he moved to Ohio from New York, November, 1853); J. Frank Norton, born December 14, 1856, in Adams Township, married, December 5, 1882, to Miss Elizabeth Rose, of Binghamton, New York; Minnie, born December 7, 1858; Anna B., born December 7, 1860, married June 16, 1881, to Watson W. Farnsworth; Lucy E., born January 11, 1866, died June 7, 1866; and George D., born September 7, 1867. Mr. Norton's father, Nathaniel Norton, Jr., was born on Long Island, New York, April 11, 1774; married, March 16, 1800, to Miss Waity Hale, who was born in Putney, Vermont, .July 6, 1784; she died March 21, 1858, at Maumee. Mr. Norton's father was a Captain in the war of 1812; he died in New York State, April 20, 1843. Mr. Norton's grandfather, Nathaniel Norton, Sr., was born on Long Island, New York, and was Captain in the Revolutionary war; he died in New York at the advanced age of 94 years. G. W. Norton enlisted for three years as a private in Battery H, First Regiment, Ohio Light Artillery. September 28,1861, and was commissioned as First Lieutenant, November 7, 1861; and promoted to Captain, October 26, 1863, serving in that capacity until March 21, 1864, when he resigned. Mr. Norton has held most of the offices of the Township, and has been President of the Board of Education.
JAMES B. ROBISON, son of James and Jane (Hunter) Robinson, was born in Pennsylvania, 1817. In 1838 married Elizabeth Weeks, In 1869 settled in Adams Township, and is a farmer and fruit grower. From 1871 to 1874 he served as Justice of the Peace. he had two sons, who gave their lives for their country: Oliver H. Robinson, killed in the battle of Pittsburg Landing, and Franklin T. Robinson, at battle of Winchester. Mr. Robinson's Post Office is Toledo.
ANDREW ROWLAND, born March 14, 1825, in New York State, settled in Lucas County in 1861. Married January 22, 1848, to Emily Snider, who was born March 19, 1834, in New York State. Have two children. Mr. Rowland has been Constable for several terms.
CARSTEN RAMM, born April 19, 1854, in Germany. Came to America in 1873 and settled in Adams Township. Married, November 8, 1883. Has one child.
EDWIN RICHARDS, born in Ontario County, State of New York, on the 17th day of May, 1839. he came with his parents, William and Rhuama (Beebe) to Lucas County, Ohio, in the year of 1851. tie married Miss Elizabeth Southard on the 29th day of March, 1863, who was born in Lucas County,

Ohio, February 15, 1840. Mr. Richards served in the War of 1861: was a member of Company I, 130th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged in 1864. Richards Station and Post Office were named after his father, William Richards. Mr. Richards is the agent of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway at Richards Station. They have two daughters, Cora A., born January 9, 1865, married to H. A. Shanks, January 17, 1886, and Jennie, born March 3, 1866.
MRS. ELEANOR SHEPHARD, born in England, Essex County, December 18, 1813, married William Tilliot, October 29, 1839. Came to the United States in the year 1852, and settled in Wayne County, New York. Came to Lucas County with her husband in 1858, who died June 22, 1859. She married James Shephard, native of Lancashire, England (who was born March 26, 1810), August 22, 1861. Mr. Shephard died August 22, 1S82. He had long been an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
JOHN E. SPANGLER was born in Maumee. February 21, 1840. His parents are Jacob and Anna (Ransbary) Spangler, and are still living in Maumee. Mr. Spangler enlisted January 25, 1863, in the 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was with the Regiment from this last date, in all its engagements, and mustered out with it July 11, 1865. He married Miss Nary McDowell March 14, 1893. He had one boy. Mrs. Spangler was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, January 1, 1852.
RUDOLPH SCHNEIDER was born in Switzerland, December 22, 1838. Before coining to America he married a lady of his native town. He came to the United States in 1868 and has been a resident of Lucas County since. For several years he has been engaged in the dairy business. He supplies many of the best families of Toledo with milk. In former years he followed the carpenter trade. He has a large and interesting family of children: Rudolph .Jr., Frederick, William, Louis, Hendrich, Lena Mary, Emma and Nettie. In politics he is a Democrat. Post Office address, Toledo.
B. W. TWOMBLY, son of Joseph A. Twombly and Fanny (Bordeaux) Twombly, born in Lucas County January 11, 1836; is Professor of Music.
LOIS B. TEN EYCK. born in Perry, Wyoming County, New York, April 8, 1827; married Stephen Ten Eyck, September 2, 1852, and settled in Sylvania one year, when they removed to Adams Township, where Mrs. Ten Eyck now resides. Stephen Ten Eyck, born December 25, 1812, died December 31, 1881, and they have two children, both living: Isadora A., born June 7, 1853, was married March 10, 1885, to R. Micham, and they have one daughter, Alma L , and one son, Guy Wilbur; Daniel E. was born November 22, 1856, was married September 3, 1879. and has two children, Stephen O. and Frank William.
DANIEL E. TEN EYCK was born in the Township of Adams, November 2'3, 1856. In 1879 he married Tacy Glann; two sons were the result of this marriage: Stephen O. and Frank. Mr. T. has been engaged for several years in the manufacture of drain tiles. He also bores artesian wells, of which there are many in Lucas County. During the summer he employs a large number of workmen. he is always found about election time on the Democratic side of the house. His kilns are located near Richards, where he gets his mail.
JAMES TIPPING was born near Oxford, England, in 1828. He came to America in 1857. For two years he lived in Mansfield, Ohio, and then moved to Adams Township, where he occupies it large farm. He married Miss Ada Cobb, of Waterville, Ohio, in 1865. Seven children make their home a pleasant one: Cora, Ellen E., Sarah M., Ray, Chester and Buela. His politics are Republican. His occupation that of farming. He receives his mail at Toledo.
MATSON H. TILLOTT, born in Rochester, New York, March 25, 1854. Came to Lucas County with his parents, William and Eleanor (Beckwith) Tillott, in the year 1858, residing for a short time in the Township of Sylvania. After the death of Mr. William Tillott, June 22, 1859, they removed to Adams Township, where Matson H. is still engaged in carrying on a large gardening farm. He was married with Miss Amanda C. Arnold, November 24, 1881, of Fremont, Ohio. They have one daughter, Maud, born March 3, 1883. Post Office address, Toledo, Ohio,
MATHIES WAHL was born in France, August 16, 1816, and in 1850, awakened by the spirit to push out into a new world, he came to the United States and settled in New Jersey. March 28, 1854, he moved to Lucas County, Ohio, and settled on a farm in Adams Township. He married Mary Sommar, October 15, 1852, who was born in Germany March 2, 1826. Mr. Wahl served with honor to himself and his native country a long time as soldier. He died March 23, 1878. They had six children, five of whom are living: Mathies Wahl, born May 27, 1854, married Maglen M. Shumaker, February 26, 1875; John, born Match 7, 1857, marrried Maglen Yager, May 4,1886; Catharine, born June 19, 1860, died August 17, 1880; henry, born April 13, 1862; Barnet, born November 7, 1864; Frances, born March 5, 1865, married John Culberson in November, 1881. They have two children.
MILO S. WARN has lived in Lucas County since 1864. he is a native of Geneva, Michigan, where he was born September 26. 1850. In 1870 he married Miss Sarah Warren. They have two sons: Bertie M. and Harry Howard. Being an admirer of the Hamiltonian form of government, of course he votes the Republican ticket. His principal occupation is farming. He is a member of the Lucas Lodge of Knights of Pythias, No. 148. Post Office address, Richards.
GEORGE WILLIAMS has been a resident of Lucas County since 1847, at which time he came to the United States from Holland, where he was born in the year 1824. In 1853 he married Miss Lena Scheares. They have three sons and live daughters, viz.: Joseph M., Mary, Margaret, John J., Anna. George R., Rosa and Emma. For several years Air. W. Was engaged at his trade, that of carpenter and joiner, but is now farming. He has always been a Democrat. Toledo is his Post Office address.
JAMES WATERS, born September 17,1846, in England, came to America in 1869 and settled in Adams Township Married, June 21, 1883, to the widow of William Van Alstine.
PHILIP H. WAMBOLD, born in Germany, March 3, 1858. Came to America in the Spring of 1862; accompanying him were his mother and two brothers. He married, November 2, 1882; has two children.
HENRY WOODWARD, son of Walter and Rhoda (Garnsey) Woodward, has lived for many years in Adams Township. His father was born in Sangersfield, Oneida County, New York, February, 1801; cane to Lucas County in December, 1845, and for a time resided in the City of Toledo, where, in the year 1847, he was elected a member of the City Council. Soon thereafter he settled in Adams Township, where he held a number of offices, and was for several terms Justice of the Peace. He died in March, 1874, leaving a widow and three children: Julia E., born June 4, 1828, now the wife of Jesse Sisson, Toledo; William H., born March 2, 1831, married Miss Mary Siddall,

and is now residing in Cresco, Iowa; henry, born September 2, 1847, married Miss Ellen Stowe, August 15, 1880, He enlisted and served in Battery H, First Ohio Light Infantry, for three years; was discharged at Cleveland, 1865. Mr. Woodward has, for several years, taught school. His Post Office address is Air Line Junction.

HENRY ABEL, born in Germany in 1823; came to America in 1851, and settled in Monclova in 1863. Married Miss Sophia Preston in 1851. Miss Preston was born in Germany, in 1821. Had one child, Fred, born November 7, 1853. Married Miss Minnie Hinkelman of Toledo. Ohio. Had three children: Sophia, born December 22, 1879; Lina, born January 7, 1883; Anna, born September 24, 1885. Henry Abel is a farrier. In politics he is a Democrat.
GEORGE ALLEN, born in Ireland, June 12, 1808; came to America with his father in 1820, and settled first in Pennsylvania and then in Massillon, Ohio, and then in Lucas County, in 1834, and settled where his wife now resides. Married Miss Elizabeth Oswalt for his first wife; had eight children, one living. Mrs. Allen died in 1853. Married Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, September 25, 1854. Mrs. Jones was born in England, January 30, 1822. He had always been a farmer. Died January 10, 1878. Since his death Mrs. Allen has carried on the business. Has been a member of the United Brethren Church, of Monclova. Mary E., his daughter, married A. K. Meyers, February 22, 1882, and lives with her mother.
W. A. BATEMAN, born in Monclova, September 22, 1847. Married Sarah Metzger, April 25, 1872. Miss Metzger was born May 4, 1853. Their children are: Frederick, born March 20, 1873; Louis, born March 28, 1875; Clark, born June 28, 1876; Arlington, born September 19, 1878; Mabel, born April 25, 1883. he has always been a farmer. Deals in horses. In politics is a Democrat.
ADAM BLACK is a farmer of Monclova, and has lived there for fifty years. He was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, April 23, 1811. Lived there until he was 15 years old, and then came to Wayne County, Ohio, with his father in 1826, and settled in Monclova in 1836. Married Anna Bales, May 26,1830. Miss Bales was born in Wayne County, July 21, 1817. Had ten children, nine living: Catherine, born October 6,1837; Sarah, November 15, 1839; John, April 17, 1842; William, Jane 1, 1844; James, August 26, 18+6; Madison, August 19, 1849; Emanuel, February 11, 1852; George, April 15,1853; Adam M., August 9, 1856; Lydia, September 26, 1858. They are all married but one.
WILLIAM BLYSTONE is a farmer of Monclova; was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, March 27, 1834. Came from there to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, with his father, October, 1844, and then to Monclova in 1850. Married Sarah Black, daughter of Adam Black, December 2, 1857. Had eight children, seven living: Alice, born July 4, 1858; Adam, born September 11, 1860; Sarah Jane, born March 20,1863; Susie Guss, born April 30, 1866; William, born October 22, 1868; Emma, born December 31, 1870; Lilian Blanche, born August 19, 1875; Claire, born February 9, 1881; Alice, born April 4, 1886. He enlisted August 6, 1862, in the 100th O. V. I., under Captain D. C. Lehan. Served all through the War. Was mustered out at Cleveland, June, 1865. In politics is a Republican.
CONRAD CODER is a farmer of Monclova, born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1810. Came here in 18:34. Married Catherine Wible, March, 1831. Had fifteen children, six living, five boys and one girl. In politics is a Republican; cast his first vote for General Jackson. Is a member of the United brethren Church of Monclova.
W. W. CODER is a builder and contractor of Monclova. Was born in Pennsylvania, August 11, 1833. Came to Ohio with his parents in 1834. Married Harriet Jane Merritt, of White House, March 19, 1863. Had two boys: Frank, born October 15, 1864, and Edgar, born April 12, 1875. In politics a Republican. He has been Justice of the Peace for 24 years. Assessor of personal property two years. Was a delegate to the State Convention in 1880.
WILSON DAVIS, born in Stark County, Ohio, October 2, 1842; came to Lucas County with his father, Samuel Davis, in 1844, and settled within three miles of where he now resides. Married Mary Shoemaker, of this County, October 31, 1868. Had four children, one living. Mrs. Davis died February 15, 1880. He married his second wife. Miss Kate Suter, June 17, 1883. Had one child, but lost it. Has always been a farmer. Has been Township Supervisor two years, Trustee one year. Enlisted August 22, 1862, in the O. V. I., under Captain John W. Smith, in the 111th Ohio. Was in the battle of Lenore, siege of Knoxville, Fort Saunders, Resaca, Burnt Hickory, Lost Mountain, Kenesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Duck River, Franklin, Nashville, Fort Anderson, and many others. Was mustered out at Salisbury, North Carolina, June 27, 1865. In politics is a Republican.
J. H. EVANS, born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, February 8, 1853. Came to Ohio with his parents when very young, and later settled in Wood County. He lived there until 1879, when he came to Lucas County. Married Miss Frederica Leder, of Monclova, October, 1882. Has always been a farmer. Has followed school teaching in the winter since he was 23 years old. In politics is a Republican.
HENRY F. GRINN, born in the City of Toledo, November .26, 1856; came to Monclova in 1863. Married Miss Phillippina Kern, of Waterville, December 24, 1879. Miss Kern was born in Germany, on the Rhine, March 4, 1861. Her children are two girls: Tilly, born January 28, 1881; Sena, born November 18, 1883. Mr. Grinn has been a farmer for 23 years. Is a Democrat. A member of the Lutheran Church of Waterville.
HARRY GUNN, born in Henry County, Ohio, April 5, 1826; moved to Lucas County with his father in 1830. Married Miss Bridget Carlis, of Lucas County, August 27, 1850. Had eight children, all living, three girls and five boys. Always been a farmer. In politics is Republican.
WARREN B. GUNN, born in Wood County, Ohio, September 5, 1820. His father, Willard Gunn, was born in Massachusetts. Came here in 1817. W. B, Gunn married Eliza Jane Martindale, of Wood County. She was born October 26, 1826. Have raised three children but not their own, he helped to build the Wabash Canal, and after that he was in the lumber business about three years. He has been a farmer since. Has been Township Clerk four years, Justice of the Peace six years, and four years as Trustee and Assessor. Has been member of the School Board since 1844, until within five years. Is President of the Maumee Valley Pioneer Association. In politics is Republican.
HENRY HAHN was born in Wood County, Ohio, March 21, 1847. Came to Monclova in 1864, and was married to Mary Ernst, of East Toledo, May 5, 1872. Had three children, two living: Jacob, born December 3, 1873; Thomas, born March 9, 1876. Mrs. Hahn died September 18, 1878. He then married for his second wife, Annie Miller, of Perrysburg, Ohio, April 6, 1880. Had two children: Margaret, born October 20, 1882; Lydia, born January 2, 1880. Mr.

MARTHA C. HAMILTON, born in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, November 9, 1822. Came to Lucas County with her father, W. L. Runyan, in the Spring of 1834. She married John Hamilton, of this County, February 15, 1842 Had two children, girl and boy: Bertha. born March 18, 1848; William T., born April 25, 1852. Mr. Hamilton died April27, 1866. In his early days he was a saddler and harness maker; was in the wool and fur business. In politics was a Republican. Mrs. Hamilton is a member of the United Brethren Church of Monclova.
HENRY HEFFELBOWER, born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, August 31, 1819. Lived there till he was 14 years old, and then came to this County with his parents in October, 1833. Married Catherine Beales of Lucas County, Ohio, in 1841. Had four children, all living. Mrs. Heffelbower died September 19, 1849. He then married for his second wife Harriet Kaufman, December 20, 1857. The result of this marriage is four children, only one living. He has always been a farmer and nurseryman. In politics is a Republican.
JACOB HERTZFELD, born in Germany January 28,1842; came to America, and married Eliza Hartman, of Monclova, April 16, 1866. Had six children, live boys and one girl: Mary E., born February 16, 1869; John, born May 18, 1867; Henry, born May 19, 1870; George, born January 28, 1872; Philip, born August 3, 1875; Peter W., born June 2, 1877. Mr, Hertzfeld died February 27, 1883. Since his death his wife has carried on the business. He had always been a farmer. In politics he was a Democrat. Was a member of St. Joseph Church of Maumee. Enlisted in 1861, and served all through the War, and was mustered out in 1865.
PETER HOLLOWAY, born in New York, in 1815; came here with his father in 1834, and settled in Maumee; came to Monclova the same year, and settled where he now resides. Married Ann Phillipps, of Johnston County, Illinois, in 1843. Had one child, John P. Holloway, still living. Mrs. Holloway died February 19, 1847. He then married Nancy Ray, his first wife's sister. She was born in New York State, July 1, 1819. Had four children, all living: Belding S., born September 28,1849; R. C., born April 28, 1852; Alice, born September 25, 1854; C. B., born July 18, 1858. Mr. Holloway, in his younger days, followed teaching in tile winter, and in the summer worked at masonry. Has been in the nursery business for 33 years. Has also been engaged in farming. He helped to move old Ottokee, the Indian Chief, from Maumee to Swanton Township, about 50 years ago. Has been Justice of the Peace of Monclova Township for 30 years. In politics is a Republican; cast his first vote for Harrison.
JOSEPH HAIN, born November 8, 1828, in Union County, Pennsylvania. Settled in Lucas County, O., in 1840. Married Susan Broadsword, who was born in Pennsylvania. Three children were born to them. Mr. Hain enlisted April 21, 1861, in 14th O. V. I., Co. I, and was with his regiment in the battles of Phillippi and Cheat River, and was mustered out. July 18, 1861. Mr. Hair owns a large farm of 40 acres in Monclova Township. lle has been treasurer of Monclova Township. Address, Maumee, Ohio.
MRS. MARY HOLT, born in New York State, Washington County, March 12, 1818; married Jay Brownell in 1834; he died in the fall of 1849. She then came to Monclova and married for her second husband, Ezra Holt, January 7, 1856. Mr. Holt was born in Vermont, October 10, 1806, and died in April, 1879. He had always been a farmer. Since his death Mrs. Holt has carried on the farming. They were both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Springfield.
WILLIAM JONES is a farmer of Monclova; was born in England, near London, December 26. 1844. Came to America when two years old with his father, Henry Jones, who died in 1834. William settled in Monclova with his mother, Mrs. Geo. Allen, A. D. 1853. Married Miss Telenah R. Barton at the residence of her brother, Mr. John Barton, September 17, 1867. She was born in Guernsey County, August 22, 1842. Had seven children: George A., born March 20, 1869; Henry L. L., born August 1, 1870; William B.,born March 13, 1872, Wilbur R. and Lizzie M. (twins), born January 18, 1874; Elwood A. Jones, born January 15, 1876; Jessie L. Jones, born April 2, 1878. William B. Jones did August 9, 1873. William Jones enlisted in Co. K, 111th O. V. I., August 15, 1862; was detailed as drummer and served three years; was on the march over the Cumberland Mountains, and was at the siege of Knoxville, Tennessee, and participated in all the principal battles fought under General Sherman, until ordered back to tight General Hood at Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee. Is a member of Rucket Post, No. 335, G. A. R. Also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Maumee. Also a member of the National Union located at Monclova.
DANIEL KEENER, born in Crawford County, Ohio. February 23, 1856; came to Monclova in 1867. Married Sarah Fausz. of Waterville, November 27, 1878. Mrs. Keener was born in Lucas County, September 11, 1859. Had three children, two boys and one girl: Jennetta, born August 25, 1879; Albert F'., born April 5, 1881; Daniel W., born April 2, 1853. Mr. Keener has always been a farmer. Has been School Director and Township Trustee. Deals heavily in cattle and horses. In politics is a Democrat.
ISAAC KELLER was born in Pennsylvania in 1826. He went from there to Allen County, with his father, and from there to Lucas County, in 1861, and settled where his widow now resides. Married Miss Mary Osborn, of Allen County, March 26, 1857. Had seven children, all living, four buys and three girls: Jane, born February 11, 1858; Reuben, born February 7,1860; Ella, born October 23, 1861; Charles B., born April 22, 1864; Nettie, .January 23, 1870; Aaron, born July 4. 1871; Rufus, born December 4, 1872; Mr. Keller died December 19, 1877. Since his death Mrs. Keller has carried on the business of farming. In politics he was a Democrat. Was a member of the United Brethren Church.
JOHN W. KERR, born in Richland County, Ohio, April 20. 1841; came to Lucas County, with his father, Jesse Kerr, in 1848. and settled where he now resides. Married Hettie Burchfield, of this County, February 6, 1862. Had ten children, nine now living: John E., born April 25, 1863; Sarah, born August 26, 1867; Annette A., born March 3, 1869; Della, born January 26, 1871; Millie B., born March 16, 1874; Franklin H., born November 2, 1875; Clarence A., born October 15, 1877; Eliza May, burn March 9, 1880; William Wilbur, born April 11, 1883; Charlotte, born March 2, 1873, and died March 17, 1873. Enlisted in the Volunteer Calvary July 23, 1861, and re-enlisted in the 111th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company H, August 12, 1862, under Captain John W. Smith; was in the battles of Campbell Station, Dandridge, Strawberry Plains and Siege of Knoxville, and was then transferred to the First United States Colored Artillery, appointed First Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster, and then was promoted to Captain of Company B, same Regiment, and served on General Hawley's staff as Commissary of Subsistence, First Brigade, Fourth Division, 23d Army Corps. THOMAS H. LEAMING, who died June 21, 1885, was a farmer of Monclova. He married Miss Merrill, of this County, September 18, 1844. She was born in Maine November 21, 1825, and came to Monclova with her mother, Catherine Merrill, when 12 years old, Had seven children, four living, three boys and one girl. Since the death of Mr. Leaming, Mrs. Leaming has carried on the business of farming.
WILLIAM LOSE, a farmer of Monclova, was born in Greenville, Stark County, Ohio, October 14, 1843; came with his father, Abraham Lose, to Monclova, in 1855. Married Harriet Heffelbower, November 10, 1870. Miss Heffelbower was born in Monclova, September 8, 1850. Had two children: Martha, born May 8, 1872; Mary, born January 30, 1881. Miss Reddish was born in Lucas County, Ohio, December 14, 1851. Had three children: Alta May, born March 19, 1874; Lottie Irene, born April 5, 1877. In politics is a Republican.
LABAN LOWRY is a farmer of Monclova. was born in Milan, Erie County, Ohio, April 20, 1833; Lived there till he carne to Monclova, December 15, 1880. Married Iris first wife, Margaret Ann Cowan, March 20, 1855. Had one child. Mrs. Lowry died March 20, 1860. He then married Hercilia Ruggles, March 20, 1872. She was born in Milan December 23, 1845. L. C. MANNING, a farmer of Monclova, was born in New York State, December 22, 1830, arid came to Ohio with his father in 1832. Settled in Monclova in 1843, where he now resides. Married Martha Jane Waggoner, September 10, 1848. Had six children, three boys and three girls: Edwin, Manuel, Catherine, Jane, Mary and L. C. Jr. In politics is a Republican.
GEORGE MOLLENKOPF is a farmer of Monclova; was born in Germany, December 19, 1819; lived there till he was 19 years old and then came to America alone in August, 1837, and settled where he now resides. Married Susan Kline, January 2, 1845; she was born in Germany in 1826. Had ten children, seven living: George, Emma, Tena, John, Andrew, Wesley, and Aaron. In politics is a Republican. Has been a member of the Evangelical Church for 30 years. Has been Supervisor for nine years. Has always been looked upon as a prominent man of Monclova.
MARIA REED, born in Livingston County, New York, July 17, 1809; came to Lucas County with her father, E. H. Leming, September 2, 1815. Married Anson Reed, of Monclova, January 1, 1831. Had three children, one living. Mr. Reed was a sailor; he sailed on the Oliver Newbury. He was born in Lockport, New York, May 11, 1811. Mrs. Reed has carried on farming 40 years. She came when it was all woods and her nearest friends were Indians. When. she first came to live here she had to walk five miles to get to school, through the woods, and the wolves howling on all sides. At one time she saw a man who had been killed and scalped by the Indians.
JOSEPH B. REDDISH, born in Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio, September 6, 1848; lived there till he was 18 years old. Married Hannah Reddish, of this County, October 24, 1870. She was born in Pennsylvania, August 24, 1854. Had seven children, six living, five boys and one girl: Charles, born October 21, 1871, and died December 12, 1871; Joseph A., born February 9, 1873, Clara E., born January 25, 1875; Benjamin J., born October 12, 1877; William, born March 19. 1878; Arthur G., born April 5, 1880; Clarence L., born October 8, 1883. Mr. Reddish is a farmer. In politics he is a Republican. Is a member of the I. 0. 0. F., No. 682, of Maumee. Mr. and Mrs. Reddish are also members of the Rebecca Lodge, of Maumee.
WILLIAM REDISH is a native of Pennsylvania, born March 20, 1817. Came to Monclova in the Fall of 1851 and settled where he now resides. Married Miss Charlotte Spencer, April 6, 1847. Miss Spencer was born in Germany, April 6, 1823. Had no children. In his early days worked at the harness trade; since 1852 has been a farmer. Has been Supervisor and School Director a number of years. In politics is a Republican. Has been a member of the United Brethren Church for 25 years.
HENRY SHUFELT is a stone mason of Monclova, and was born in Pennsylvania, September 28, 1844, Married Elizabeth Jeffers, of Wood County, Ohio. Enlisted August 11, 1852, in Company H., 101st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was taken prisoner July 11, 1853. Was in Libby prison one month and five days; Belle Isle, four months and ten days, and then joined his command; was taken sick and sent to the Cumberland hospital, and remained there until mustered out. Is Commander of Buckles Post, No. 335. Has six children.
JOHN TAYLOR, born in Pennsylvania, April 15, 1815. Came to Maumee in 1836, walking all the way from Pennsylvania, 500 miles. That was before the railroads were built. Married Mary F. Hall, of Monclova. She was born in 1820. Have had eight children, six living; three boys and three girls. Has always been a farmer. Has been Trustee and Member of the School Bard five years. In politics is a Republican.
JOSEPH B. TRAPP is a farmer of Monclova; was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, June 15, 1830. Moved to Monclova in 1836, and settled where he now resides. In his early days he was engaged at the carpenter's trade. In politics he is a Republican.
JACOB ULRICH was born in Bavaria, Germany, March 2, 1840. He came to America in 1860 and settled in Monclova, where he now resides. Married Miss Phebe Fausz, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Fausz, of Waterville, September 1, 1875; she was born in Lucas County July 9, 1855. Her children are: Edward B., born November 13, 1876; Ella E., born November 3, 1878; Daniel C., born September 19, 1880; Hattie A., born December 29, 1882; Laura O., born July 2, 1885. Jacob Ulrich is a farmer; has been Road Supervisor for number of years. Is a Democrat.
C. VAN FLEET, an old resident of Monclova, was born in Pennsylvania February 5, 1817. he came to Ohio when two years old, with his father, N. S. Van Fleet, and settled in Lucas County in 1831. Married Julia Ann Runyan, May 8, 1840. Had eight children, six boys and two girls: Mabry B., born May 13, 1841; henry C., born April 12, 1843; Pliny, born March 12, 1845; Martha E., born June 1, 1847; Mary C., born May 1, 1849; William C., born March 28, 1852; F. T., born February 22, 1858; Edwin A., born October 8, 1863. In his early days he was all engineer on the Wabash Canal ; also Superintendent of the Canal after it was finished, for eight years. Was then engaged in the mercantile business for a number of years, and since then a farmer. In politics is a Democrat. Is a member of the Disciple Church.

JOSEPH WHIDDEN, born in Nova Scotia, October 14,1836; came to Lucas County in 1852, and settled in Monclova in 1860. Married Miss Sarah Buckle, of Monclova, July 9, 1861. Miss Buckle was born in Ireland March 3, 1839. Had six children, four living, one boy and one girl dead ; O. J., born April 27, 1862; Sarah E., born December 2, 1866; Florence E., born October 13, 1868; Abbie C., born September 25,1872; Joseph E., born October 25, 1874; Mariah A., born September 5, 1875. Enlisted in 1861 in the 67th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, under A. C. Voris. Was in the battle of Charleston, South Carolina, where he was wounded in the arm; also at the battle of Were Bottom Church, Virginia, and was wounded in the head. Went in as private and came out as first Sergeant. Was mustered out at City Point, Virginia, December 7, 1865. He followed the carpenter's trade for 25 years. Since 1878 has been a farmer. In polities is a Republican.
E. L. WOOD, born in Ontario County, Pew York, March 11, 1815; remained until 21 years old; then came and settled in Waynesfield, Monclova Township. Married Lydia Manning in 1843. Had two children : Mary, wife of J. W. Cressy, and John M. in politics is a Democrat. Is Township Clerk and holds several other offices.
OREGON TOWNSHIP.
DANIEL BAKER, born in Germany September 26, 1827; came to America in 1867 and settled in Lucas County in 1876. Married in 1852. Have three children.
WILLIAM H. BEAN was born in England October 14, 1833, and carne to America in 1837. Settled in Rochester, New York, until 1854; was for six years engaged in navigation on the lakes. Married, in 1860, to Emily Bunce. The results of said marriage are nine children, four of whom are now deceased.
DANIEL L. BLANDIN, born in the State of Vermont and resided for many years in Crittenden County. When 28 years of age he settled in Michigan, where he remained for seven years. when he removed to Wood County, Ohio, where he resided for 24 years and then removed to Oregon Township, where he has resided since. Married, April 11, 1830, to Lavinia S. Taylor, who died February 17, 1886. The result of said marriage was seven children.
GEORGE BURY, born April 4, 1813, in Germany, came to America about 1844. Remained three years in New York City, and came to Oregon Township, Lucas County, in 1847, and has remained there ever since. He was one of the first settlers. Married, in 1850, to Ann Catharine Yohlin. Have had seven children, one of whom is dead.
ISAAC CLAY, born in Center County, Pennsylvania, February 9, 1813; in 1817 came to Ohio. Settled in Wood County in 18:10. Moved to Lucas County in 1873. Married, November 17,1836, .Jane Ann Tompkins, who died in April, 1840. Married, for his second wife, Lucinda Myers, November 10, 1842. Five children by first wife, two living, and six by second wife, four living.
HENRY COOK, born in Jackson, Michigan, February 28, 1841; shortly afterward removed to Huron County, Ohio, where he remained until 1854, and then settled in Lucas County. Enlisted, in April, 1861, in the 14th Ohio Infantry, for three months, and afterwards in the 30th Ohio Cavalry. Received an honorable discharge in 1865. JAMES CROFTS, born April 22, 1816, in England, settled in Ohio June 27, 1852, at Mentos Plains. Removed to Lucas County October 17, 1855. Married, May 7, 1837, to Ann Clegg. The result of this marriage was three children, all living. There are now; fifteen grand-children and four great-grand-children,
WILLIAM DICKMAN, born in Germany, June 2, 1859; came to America, August 25, 1874, an t settled in Lucas County, where he has since lived. Married, May 5, 1886, to Eliza Winker. Mr. Dickman is a farmer.
JULIAN DUBOIS, born in Belgium, May 22, 1847; came to America in 1856 and remained in Detroit one year. Then came to Lucas County in 1857, and settled in Oregon Township, where he has remained on the present homestead. Married Antwine Masey January 21, 1871. The result of this marriage was two children, one of whom is dead. His first wife died in 1873, and he married for his second wife Mary Schnabling, January 28, 1881, and has had by this marriage, four children. Mr. Dubois is a farmer.
JOSEPH GLADIEUX, born in France September 2, 1818; came to America in 1833 and settled in Stark County, remaining until 1849, when he settled in Lucas County. Married, October 10, 1843, and the result of this marriage has been eleven children, five of whom are deceased.
NATHAN GARDNER was born in Wolcott, Wayne County, New York, April 5, 1831; settled in Lucas County in 1831. Married at Toledo, February 9, 1851, and is the father of ten children-eight sops and two daughters. Mr. Gardner enlisted with the 100-day men in the 130th Ohio Regiment, and served in the Civil War. CASSANDER GLOYD, born May 3, 1830, in that part of Knox County, Ohio, now called Morrow County. Went from there to Massachusetts when 14 years of age, remaining there about four years. and then went to Franklin County, Ohio, in 1848 and remained there until 1859, and then returned to Monroe County, and remained until 1861, and then settled in Wood County in 1861. In 1864 enlisted in the 144th National Guards, Company E, and served one year during the War of the Rebellion. After that returned to Wood County, where he remained until the Spring of 1386, and then moved to his present place in Oregon Township, Lucas County. Married his first wife in 1853, who died in 1859, and married his second wife in 1863. Has had eleven children in all, three of whom are dead.
J. C. HAMLIN, born April 2, 1854, in Dome, New York. Moved to Lucas County when eight years of age, where he has remained ever, since. Married October 31, 1883, to Lizzie Fairskin. Mr. Hamlin is a farmer.

JOHN H. HECKMAN, born December 30, 1834, in Prussia, came to America in 1858, and settled in Lucas County in 1831. Married, December 8, 1860, and the result of said marriage is four children.
PETER HEIDER, born in Germany, May, 1819; came to America in 1847, and settled in Lucas County in 1851. Married, in 1847, Christina Stumhoffer; she was born in Germany 1815, and died in 1856. He married for his second wife Christinna Meyboeer, October 29, 1857, who was born August 15, 1830. He has had four children by his first wife and seven by the second. WESLEY HICKS, born in Niagara County, New York, April 25, 1825, son of Lawson and Eleanor (Merritt) Hicks, and came with his parents to Oregon Township in 1837. Has served in several of the Township offices, and as Justice of the Peace many years. Married, December 22, 1851, Frances M. VALENTINE HORNSTEIN, born in Germany about 1836, came to America in 1866 and settled in Lucas County, where he has lived since. Married in 1867, and the result of said marriage is two children, both of whom are now living. Mr. Hornstein is a farmer.
MRS. E. JACKSON, born June 21, 1836, in England; came to America and settled in Lucas County in 1866. Was married, February 18, 1864, to Thomas Jackson, who died May 5, 1880. No children.
JANE E. JOHNSON, born May 3, 18,23, in St. Lawrence County, New York. Settled in Lucas County when 27 years of age. Was married in 1849 to J. J. Johnson, who died in 1862. Has had six children, two of whom are now deceased.
JOHN KLAG, born December 21, 1824, in Bavaria; came to this country in 1851 and settled in New York City, where he remained until 1858, and then removed to Norwalk, Ohio, for one year, and then went to Perrysburg, Ohio, where he remained until 1861. In this year he came to Lucas County, settling in Toledo for 13 years, when he removed in 1874 to Oregon Township, where he is now Minister of St. Marcus German Lutheran Church, of which he has been Pastor since 1862. Married twice; the result of said marriages has been nine children, two of whom are dead.
JOHN KLOTZ, born in Germany, July 19,1828; came to America in 1852 and settled in Lucas County. Married in 1855 to Lena Elk. Have had six children, all of whom are living except one.
DIEDRICH KOEHNE, born in Germany, September 29, 1834, and settled in Lucas County in 1857. He is a son of Fritz and Sophia Koehne, who came to Oregon Township at same date. Mr. Koehne married in October, 1860; have had nine children six sons and three daughters. He served in the War in the 130th Regiment. JACOB F. MULLER, born July 20, 1814, in Germany; came to America July 10, 1852, and settled in Lucas County. Married his second (present) wife, August 8, 1852. Had 19 children, eight of whom are now deceased.

THOMAS MUNDAY, born June 24, 1848, in England; came to America in 1870, and settled here in Lucas County, where he has remained ever since. Married, April 20, 1871, to Amelia C. Johnston. Have had four children, one of whom is dead. He is a farmer.
PETER MOMANY, born March 12, 1827, in Ottawa County, Ohio. Enlisted with the 100-day men in 130th Ohio Infantry, and served in the Civil War. He has been twice married. His parents were Anthony and Angeline Momany, with whom he came to Oregon Township in 1836. He married his present wife. Anna Ward, February 4, 1862. Her parents settled in Wood County in 1818.
HOOT ONNENGER, born in Germany, in 1850; came to America when 17 years of age, and settled in Lucas County. Married, April 17, 1875, to Louisa Schact, and they have five children, His Post Office address is East Toledo.
JOSEPH PHILLIPS, born March 19, 1837, in Germany; came to America in 185'2 and worked on the lakes for two years, and then settled in Oregon Township, Lucas County, in 1854, where he has remained since. Married, in 1861, to Vholene Helping. Have had nine children, two of whom are dead. Enlisted in 55th Regiment Ohio Infantry and served one year during the War of the Rebellion. He is a farmer.
CHARLES S. PIERCE, born in England, September 13, 1812; came to this country in 1820, and lived in New York State. Removed to Lucas County in 1867, and has resided here since. Married Mary S. Trowbridge, October 5, 1841, and they have had five children, two of whom are now deceased.
ANDREW REIHLE, born August 10, 1847, in Germany; came to America in 1867 and settled in Tiffin, Ohio. Came to Lucas County in 1868, and to Oregon Township in 1871, where he has since resided. Married, in 1868, Margaret Rapp. Eight children have been born to them, six of whom are living. Mr. Reihle owns a fine farm of 20 acres.

HENRY WILHELM, born in Germany, July 15, 1826; came to America, May 3, 1850, and settled in Lucas County. The same year he married Thresa Spross, April 10, 1853; she was born in Germany, July 21, 1824. Eight children were born to them, six of whom are living. Mr. Wilhelm is a mason by trade. At present he is an active farmer of East Toledo. In politics he is Republican.
GEORGE D. TREAT, born in Litchfield, Connecticut, in 1805; came to Ohio and settled on the Maumee River, 1835, remaining there until his death in 1876. Married three times; for his third wife he married Elizabeth Thompson, who was born in Vermont; they were married in 1868, Five children were born to them, one living. Mr. Treat had been Justice of the Peace many years.

They have five children, three boys, two girls. In polities Mr. Brown is a Democrat. he is a member of Albright Church. Has always been a farmer.
JAMES BARNETT, born in England July 24, 1814; came to America in1836; settled in Lucas County in 1865. Married Eliza Collins June 28, 1852; she was born in England, August 16, 1822. Their children are: Mary, Francis, Henry, Arthur, Emily. Mrs. Barnett died December 1, 1875. Mr. Barnett is a farmer. His Post Office address is Bailey, Ohio.
OSBORN J. BRITTON, second child of William and Elizabeth (Osborn) Britton, was born in Portage County, Ohio, August 13, 1836. His father was born February 12, 1812, in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and was a farmer, he came to Ohio about 1830 and settled m Stark County, remaining there until 1852, when he removed to Hillsdale County, Michigan. Osborn J. lived at home until 20 years old; attended district school and one year at Hiram College. Was married October 22, 1856, to Sarah Ann Ayres. After marriage he settled on a farm in hillsdale County, where he remained until 1872, when he moved to Lyon, Fulton County, Ohio, where he preached at the Christian Church; remained there three years. Came to Neapolis under the aupices of the Christian Missionary Society, to organize a Christian Church, and has been its pastor ever since.
JACOB BOX, a farmer of Providence, was born in Pennsylvania, January 8, 1822 ; settled in Lucas County, February 28, 1846. Married Catharine Burget, April 18, 1841. Mrs. Box was born in Perry County, Ohio. Their children are: Susan, William, Eva, Benjamin, Mary, Daniel and Emma. Mr. Box is a cooper by trade, but is farming at present. His Post Office address is Grand Rapids, Ohio.
RICHARD CARR, a farmer of Providence, was born in New York Mate, September 6, 1830; came to Lucas County in 1873. Married Mirila Dyer, December 16,1862; she was born October 14, 1840. FREDERICK FRIEDGAR was born in Licking County, Ohio, June 13, 1836 ; settled in Lucas County in 1868. Married Lucinda Scharer November 21, 1861 she was born in Fairfield County, Ohio. WILLIAM GILL, born in Summit County, Ohio, February 11, 1831; came to Lucas County in 1844. Married Mary Gray in November, 1856. She was born in Virginia., January 11, 1842. Eight children bless their home : Theodore, George, William A., Emma A., James F., Harry E., Frederick and Addie A. Mr. Gill is a carpenter by trade; has been farming for 37 years. THOMAS A. KUNKLE, a native of Pennsylvania, was born in December 18, 1836; came to Lucas County in 1866. Married Miss Elizabeth Rickley, February 13, 1866; she was born June 22, 1842. Four children blessed their home: Hannah C., Mary J., Edward W., Nettie D. Mr. Kunkle enlisted September 24, 1861, in Company A. 55th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, under Colonel J. C. Lee, and served through the war. He is a member of Bond Post, No. 24, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, His business is farthing. Post Office address, Grand Rapids, Ohio.
DAVID McCULLOCH, born in Perry County, Ohio, November 1, 1824 ; came to Lucas County in 1830. Married Sarah E. Lewis, December 16, 1857; she was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, November 9, 1836. The result of their marriage was eight children: Edna, William L., Alice N., Sarah I., Thomas E., Flora A., Charles L., and Clara B. Mr. McCullock died September 17, 1886. WILLIAM H. DENNIS, born September 13, 1846, in Spencer Township, Lucas County; remained there until 1865, when lie enlisted in Company A, 189th Regiment O. V. I., under Captain Thomas Howlet; was mustered out September, 1865. Married February 27, 1875, to Ida Ann Smith, born November 24, 1852, in Lucas County; have three children, all living. Has been Constable and School Director.
JAMES FARLEY, born in Ireland, 1800; came to America when a boy and settled in Pennsylvania. In 1835 moved to Lucas County, Ohio, and settled on his present homestead; married Eliza McMillin in the year 1836. Five children were born to them, all living. Has been Trustee, and held other offices in the Township.
WILLIAM FARLEY, born August 7, 1810, in Richfield Township, where he has since resided. Married May 2, 1869, to Mary A. Hull, who was born in Seneca County, Ohio, January 14, 1851, and died April 21, 1878: married for second wife, Melissa Andel Sloan, October 16, 1879, who was born in Seneca County, May 11, 1858. Mr. Farley enlisted August 25, 1861, in Company F, 14th O. V. L, under Captain John A. Chase, and served four years; was honorably discharged January 20, 1864, and reenlisted same date; was wounded at Mission Ridge, November, 1861, and was discharged July 11, 1865. Mr. Farley, in politics, is a Republican.
WILLIAM M. GRAY was born in Utica, New York, December 17, 1830, and came with his parents, Watson and Sally Ann Gray, to Ohio, when three years of age, and has lived in Richfield Township ever since. He married in 1854, Angeline Nattage, who was born in New York State, July 11, 1826. They have had tour children, two of whom are living. Mr. Gray enlisted in Company E, :25th O. V. I., under Captain Murray, and served one year. In politics Mr. Gray is a Republican.
HENRY GREEN, born in Summit County, Ohio, January 21, 1831, settled with his parents in Toledo in 1839, and in 1842 moved to Richfield Township, where he has since resided. GEORGE S. GRIFFIN, born March 29, 1836, in Delaware County, New York; came with his parents when two years old, to Fulton County, Ohio, then to Lucas County, and settled in Richfield Township in 1859, where he now resides. He was married August 7, 1859, to Susan C. Ford, who died in 1873, and he married, March 17, 1886, as a second wife, Clara C. Nason, who was born in Lucas County, August 29, 18-. Six children have been the issue of Mr. Griffin's marriages. Mr, Griffin enlisted August 7, 1862, as private, under Captain W. W. Hunt, and served one year. he has been Assessor, School Director about 10 years, and also Supervisor and Constable. He is a Republican.
DAVID HENDRICKSON, born April 11 1808, in Broome County, New York; remained until July, 1834, when he settled in Richfield Township; he made his journey from New York to Ohio with horse and cart, driving all the way. He married in 1832 Lina Hubbard, who was born in Broome County, New York. She died May 25, 1868, leaving three children, all living. He has held many offices, among others those of Trustee and School Director; is a Republican. Mr. Hendrickson has the deed of his farm from Andrew Jackson, and took up present place from Gov. Laporte.

LYMAN W. HENDRICKSON, born in Broome County, New York, August 20, 1831, and came to Richfield Township in 1834 with his father. He was married November 15, 1859, to Adna Treadway, who was born in Michigan. They had ten children, one deceased. Mr. Hendrickson enlisted in Company G 130th Regiment O. V. I., as First Lieutenant. He has been Trustee a great many years.
ANDREW KARG, born in Germany, April 29,1827; came to America in 1849, and settled in Richfield Township in 1855. He married in 1851, Katrine Idler, who died in 1872, and he married again in 1873, Magdalen Schwaibold. He is the father of five children. Air. Karg is a Republican.
J. W. LANGENDERFER was born August 28, 1851, in Springfield Township, Ohio, where he remained until 1860, when he came to Richfield Township. He married May 16, 1882, Mary Margaret Schwaibold, who was born in Toledo, April 24, 1863. Three children have been born to them. Mr. Langenderfer has been Supervisor for some time. He is a Democrat.
FREDERIC LEMLE, born January 14, 1856, in Germany, came to America with his father in 1864, settling in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1865 he moved to Richfield Township. His father, Peter Lemle, was born March 23, 1814, and died September 1, 1877. His mother, Pauline (Weideman) Lemle, was born in 1824. Fred. Lemle married May 29, 1873, and has one child. Mr. Lemle is a Democrat.
JOSEPH LOEFFLER was born in Germany, February 14, 1845, and came to America and settled in Richfield Township in 1868. He married May 16, 1871, Margaret Bettinger, who was born in Seneca County, Ohio, in 1h52. Seven children have been born to them. Mr. Loeffler has been School Director for three years. He is a Democrat.
JAMES B. McBRIDE, born in Lewiston, Pennsylvania, May 8, 1809; came to Lucas County in 1848, and settled in Richfield Township. He married, January 2, 1834, Ann Farley, who was born in Ireland. They have had eight children, two of whom are deceased, one a son, who died during the war at the age of 19. Mr. McBride has been Treasurer 10 years, and has also been Supervisor and School Director.
LAWRENCE MILLER, SR., born in Germany, August 5, 1805, came to America in 1834, and settled in Fremont, Ohio, remaining about one year, Lived at Maumee, Lucas county, ten years, and in 1843 settled on his present farm. Married in 1836 Katherine Langenderfer, who was born in Germany and died in 1862. Have had twelve children, three of whom are dead. Has been School Director. In politics a Democrat.
CHAS. A. MOORE, born in New York State April 3, 1837. In 1877 he came to Richfield Township. Married Emma Raymond, who was born in Seneca County, New York. Have one adopted child. Mr. Moore enlisted in Company E, 64th New York Infantry, in 1861, under Captain Wm. Glenny; was in the battle of Fair Oaks and battle of Malvern Hill, Va. Was wounded in the battle of Fair Oaks. Was honorably discharged in 1864. Mr. Moore is a Republican.
JOSEPH SMITH, born in New York State December 25, 1816; remained there until his seventh year, and went with his parents to Canada. In 1836 came to Toledo; in 1854 moved to Richfield Township, where he has since resided. Married Mrs. Bridgret Schicns McCann in 1840. Have had seven children, three living.
WM. SWIFT, born near Auburn, New York, April 6, 1818. Settled in Richfield Township, Ohio, in 1845. Married Hannah Howard, who died September, 1881. For second wife married the widow of Thomas Gowman. Three children by first wife, all deceased. Mr. Swift is a Republican.
WILLIAM JAMES TAYLOR, born in Richfield Township, December 16, 1860. Married Nellie A. Smith, February 27, 188'3, who was born in Lucas County. One child was born to them. In politics Mr. Gray is a Republican.
RUSSELL TWISS, born in Vermont, October 18, 1818. Lived in New York State two years, then moved to Sandusky, Ohio, afterwards to Seneca County, and in 186,5 purchased his farm in Richfield Township where he resides. Married February 10, 1842, Sally Ann Hall, who was born in Holmes County, Ohio. Had six children, one deceased.
AARON G. WASHBURN, born May 30, 1843, in Richfield Township, and remained since. Married April 19, 1868. Lucy Smith. Have three children, all living. Mr. Washburn enlisted August 25, 1861, in Company F. 14th O., V. I., as private, and was discharged July, 1865, after very hard service. Was wounded in the battle before Atlanta. Has been Town Clerk. In politics is a Republican.
ISAAC WASHBURN, born in Georgia, Franklin County, Vermont, August 10, 1811, cattle to Ohio in 1831, and settled on the farm where he now resides. Married Mary Wolfinger, May 3, 1836, who died ,January 8, 1869. Had five children by first wife, one deceased. he married for second wife Miranda Fuller, September 25, 1870. Mr. Washburn has been Treasurer of Township for a number of years.
C. C. WELCH, born in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, December 6, 1811, lived in Pennsylvania until his twenty third year, and then settled in Huron County, where he remained three years. From there he moved to Seneca County. In the fall of 1844 came to Lucas County, where he has since resided. In 1834 he married Margaret Coss. Nine children were born to them, all living. Mr. Welch has been Justice of the Peace-fifteen years and Trustee six terms.
S. GEORGE ZENK, born in Germany, August 24,1830. Came to America in 1860, and for three years lived in Wood County, Ohio, when he moved to Richfield Township, his present home. Married in 1860 Katrina Ditch, who died in 1864. Married for

FAYETTE H. COON, born in New York State, June 12, 1831, left there in 1837. Settled in Fulton County, Ohio; afterwards in Spencer Township, Lucas County. In 1853 he married Catharine Cunningham, who was born March 9, 1833. Have had ten children, nine living : James M., born July 18, 1853; Mary E., born November 28,1857; John F.. October 1, 1855; Jacob E., January 10, 1861; Harrison F., December 11, 1862; Ida M., June 6, 1868; Rosa M., June 9, 1870: Ada A., January 10, 1873, who died September 18, 1873; Freddie, born April 2, 1875, and Nellie M., May 3. 1879. DAVID CRISSEY is a farmer in Spencer, was born in New York State, November 10, 1801; came to Lucas Country in 1846, and married Mary Phillipps, of Vermont, October 24. 1830. She was born in Vermont, June 13, 1805, and died March 16, 1874, Had seven children, five living: Sarah, born October 26, 1831; Hiram, born September 30, 1833; Rum, born August 26, 1835; Alexander, born December 18,1837; Hannah, born July 17, 1840; Harriet, born February 21, 1843; Rosina, born September 16, 1840. J. W. GRACE, born in Lyons, Wayne County, New York, September 30, 1832. In 1831; came with his parents to Michigan, remaining until 1871, when he settled in Spencer Township. FRANK KOEPFER is a merchant and Post Master at Java. Was born in Germany, October 18, 1840. Cane to America in 1869. Married Julia Dietsche, of Germany, in 1866. He settled in Lucas County in 1869. Had eight children, six living; Julius, born August 26, 1867; Henry, born November 16, 1868; Louisa, born January 1, 1871; Anna, born November 1, 1873; Frank, born October 25, 1875; Emiel, March 14, 1878; Ernst, September 30, 1880; August, September 7, 1883. Mrs. Koepfer was born in Germany in 1847. he has been Township Treasurer and School Director for four years. In politics is a Democrat. Is a member of the German Catholic Church of Spencer.
JACOB LANGENDERFER was a farmer of Spencer. Was born in Germany, September 30, 1825. Came to America in 1832. Married Margaret M. Klumm, April 20, 1857; she was born in Germany July 11, 1841. Had eleven children: John, born January 18, 1858; Jacob .J., born February 8, 1859; Margaret M., born August 8,1861; Francis, born March 4,1863, and died August 25, 1864; Adam F., born February 15, 1865, died March 4,1865; Edward J., born October 13,1866; Francis W., born May 7, 1869; Stephen, born March 3, 1871; Agnes M., born February 21, 1878; Joseph, born February 9, 1875; Victor L. LEVI MUNSON is an old settler of Spencer ; was born in Connecticut, June 20, 1819. He accompanied his father, Eli Munson, to Lucas County, December 28, 1833, where they settled and cleared up the farm where he now resides. His father was the first permanent white settler in what is now Spencer Township. Mr. Levi Munson married Harriet Fuller in 1839. Miss Fuller was born in Massachusetts in 1819. Had five children, four living: Eliakin, Nancy, L. Amelia, Arthur W., and Jasper W. His son Arthur W., married Ellen M. Stebbins, May 9, 1869. Has six children, four living: Edith, born April 1, 1871; Ella, born January 11, 1873; Eber, born June 13, 1875; Edna, born March 25, 1883. Has always been a farmer. Is a member of the I. O. O. F., of Swanton, No. 528. In politics is a Republican.
JOHN SHARPLES, born in England, October 5,1826; came to America October 31, 1849, and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, remaining there 11 years. In 1862. he came to Spencer Township, where he has since resided. Married, May 26, 1851, Jane Ann Tutthill, who was born in England. Have seven children, all living. Mr. Sharpies worked in the Navy Yards of Cincinnati and St. Louis, at boiler making, and was engaged there during the war for five years. Has been Supervisor and Trustee of Spencer Township.
A. C. TUCKER, born in Rhode Island. June 24, 1827, came to Milan, Erie County, Ohio, in 1835, where he remained until 1857, then moved to Wood County. In 1861 settled in Adams Township, Lucas County, and in 1882 purchased his present homestead in Spencer Township. In 1851 he married Rebecca Macklin. In 1861 he married for his second wife, Laura Beard, widow of Samuel Beard. Eight children were born to him-four by first marriage and four by second, three of whom are now deceased. Mr. Tucker enlisted in 1864 in the 130th Regiment, Company I, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was mustered out October 1, 1864. In politics he is a Republican.
JOHN WILLIAM MANCHLY, born in Maumee, February 18, 1850. In 1851 moved to Franklin Township, Fulton County, remaining until 13 years old, then came with an uncle, Sebastian Lipe, to Spencer Township. Lived two years in Monclova Township. Settled on present place in Spencer Township in 1883. Married Mary J. Cegler, May 5, 1877, of Monclova. Three children were born to them, two boys and one girl. Mr. Manchly, by trade, is a carpenter and joiner. Has been School Director. Is engaged in farming. Is a Republican in politics. Is a member of the German Baptist Church. Post Office address, Java.

HARRISON H. BATES, born in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio, in 1836; came from Dover, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in 1870, to Springfield Township, where he has since resided. Married, in 1865, Miss Lucy E. Aldrich. Seven children have been born to them, four living; Edward H., Etta L., Clara C., and George D.; Harley L., Corrington G. arid Aggie E. deceased. Mr. Bates enlisted at Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio, October 1, 1861, as private in Company E, 42d Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Served during the campaign of Eastern Kentucky, up the Big Sandy River, Cumberland Gap, the Battle of Taswell, Tennessee, at the taking of Arkansas Post in the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi, under General Grant; and with General Banks' retreat out of the Red River expedition, as well as many others. He was mustered out at Columbus, Ohio, November 16, 1864, For many years Mr. Bates has been engaged in farming. Post Office address, Holland, Lucas County, Ohio.
EDWARD CAIRL was born in Sandusky County, Ohio, September 20, 1832 ; came to Lucas County, Ohio, in October, 1861. Married, June 3, 1853, Miss Mary McNutt, of Sandusky, who was born April 24, 1835. SILAS J. COTHREL, a native of Ohio, was born April 2, 1844, and settled in Lucas County in 1848. Married Mary Riley; she was born in Lucas County, July 31, 1846. Their children are: Thomas, Art, and George; three died in infancy. Mr. Cothrel's business is farming. He enlisted in September, 1861, in the First Ohio Artillery, and was mustered out June 18, 1865, having served all through the war.
PATRICK DELANEY, a native of Ireland, was born March 15, 1815. Came to America in 1836, and settled in Lucas County at that time. Married Catharine Cooney, May 25, 1842. Their children living are: Mary, Katie, William, Michael, Frank and Theresa. his business is farming.
JAMES DORAN was born in Ireland, March 16, 1839; came to America in 1850 and settled in Norwalk, Ohio. In 1866 came to Lucas County. Married Margaret Riley, of Lucas County, November 14, 1864. Their children are; James, Mary, John, Walter, Richard, Thomas, Francis and Acelia. Mr. Doran enlisted in Company D, 55th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, September 13, 1861, and was mustered out October 20, 1864. He is a farmer.
JOHN DORCAS, born in Maine, on the St. John's River, October 9, 1841. He came to the Valley of the Maumee on the 15th day of June. 1866. Married Sophia Kruse, of Maumee, August 8, 1868. They have seven children, all living. Mr. Dorcas is a farmer.
MRS. ELLEN A. DUNN was born in New York State, December 12, 1835. Her husband, Thomas Dunn, was born in Ireland February 28, 1826. They were married July 24, 1856. Their children are ; Thomas M., Ellen E., Mary C., James F., Anna I., Margaret C., Patrick .l. Mr. Dunn was Station Agent at Holland for 19 years; Post Master during the war.
AMOS W. FILES was born in Green County, Ohio, August 26, 1836; came to Lucas County in December, 1868, and located in Holland Village. Married Anna Clark, of Holland, March 14, 1866. Have had five children, lost one. Was elected Township Clerk in 1872; elected Justice of the Peace in 1884; also Assessor in the Spring of 1886. Enlisted August 22, 1862, in Company D, 110th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Was in the following battles: Mine Run, Virginia; Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg. Was with the Regiment through the Shenandoah Valley with Sheridan. Never received a scratch. Mustered out at Columbus, Ohio, as Corporal, July 2, 1865. Is a member of Forsyth Post, Toledo, Ohio.
JACOB FOULK was born in Pennsylvania January 27, 1818; came to Lucas County in 1843. Married Miss Amelia Amelia, March 10, 1838; she was born August 15. 1818. The result of the marriage was seven children; Clara A., George, Lewis F.. Edward N., Olive E.; two died in infancy. Mr. Foulk follows farming.
JAMES B. GRIFFIN was born August 18, 1845, in Lorain County, Ohio. His parents, Robert W. and Harriet (Beach) Griffin, were eastern people. James B. came to Springfield Township it 1874, and purchased the present homestead. He married Maria Martin, October 9, 1867, who was born April 19, 1817, in New York State. To them six children were born, three living. Mr. Griffin enlisted in September, 1861, in the 58th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was transferred in December, 1861, to Company H, 43d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, under Colonel J. Kirby Smith. Was appointed Corporal at the battle of Corinth, and in January, 1864, appointed Sergeant. Was in all battles of Sherman's campaign; in Sherman's celebrated march to the sea. Mustered honorably out of service, July 29, 1865. Is a member of Monclova, Ohio, Post, and of 528 Swanton Lodge, I. O. O. F.
A. D. GUNN was born in Lucas County, Ohio, November 21, 1813. Married Sarah J. Van Wert, May 10, 1864; she was born October 1, 1835. Their children are : Elvia J., Fred W., Frank A., and Elzora M, His business is farming.
STEPHEN HERTZFELD, son of Joseph and Margaret (Fleck) Hertzfeld, was born in Germany, March 29, 1844, and came to the United States in the year 1851 with his parents and settled in Lucas County. he married Miss Mary Steltzel, December 16, 1869. Ten children were the fruits of this union, two of whom have died. Mr.. Hertzfeld's mother died in 1852; his father still survives. In politics Mr. Hertzfeld is a staunch Democrat.
HARRISON L. HOLLOWAY, a farmer of Springfield, was born in New York State, October 8, 1832, and with his parents settled in Sylvania in the Spring of 1834. In 1871 he became identified with Springfield Township. Married Mrs. Mary J. Gilbert, December 7, 1871. Mrs Holloway was born in Springfield October 20, 1839. Mr. Holloway has been farming since 1872.
TUNIS KITTLE was born near Schenectady, New York, January 30, 1849. he is a son of DeWitt and Ellen (Proper) Little, who were born in New York State. Tunis Kittle married, July 25, 1882, Mary Edigton, who died August 22, 1883. Married for his second wife, Amanda Mitchell. October 12, 1885. One child has been born to them: Evelina, born July 23, 1886. Mr. Little is a Republican.
THOMAS MAHAN, born in Ireland in 1809, came to America in 1849. Married Anna Gallaghar; she was born in Ireland, June 29, 1831. Their children, living, are: Bridget, born April 7, 1853; Andrew, born August 15, 1855; Mary, January 4, 1861. Mr. Mahan is a farmer.
MARY ANN McNEES was born in Harrisburgh, Pennsylvania, August 10, 1806; her husband, John McNees, a native of the same place, was born July 8, 1802. They were married in 18 3; moved to Maumee City, Ohio, in 1834, and settled in Springfield in 1857. They have four children: Hattie, William, David and James. Mr. McNees died in 1872.
WILLIAM MAUNDER, a native of England, was born April 4, 1823. Came to America in 1849 and settled in Lucas County at that time. Married Elizabeth Ackland Marco 14, 1851; she was born in Buffalo, New York, June 29, 1835. They have fine child living; Herbert, born May 1, 1860. Mr. Maunder is a farmer.
B. F. MILLS was born in Lucas County, Ohio, November 16, 1848. Married Miss Emily Hood, of Huron County, Ohio, December 14, 1867. Mrs. Mills was born November 8, 1848. The result of their marriage was two children: Pearly A. and Sarah. Mr. Mills is a farmer.
ALFRED K. RUMSEY, born in New York State, February 26, 1814, cone to Ohio in 1835, and settled in Lucas County where he still resides. Married Miss Rosannah McCormick, of Springfield Township, September 26, 1839; she was born in 1820 and died in 1852. For his second wife he married Miss Ruey Jane Kinyon, of Elkhart, L Indiana, April 25, 1853. His children are: Virginia, Emerson, Alice, Charles, William, Lewis, Alfred, Benjamin, .John, George, Frank and Clara. Mr. Rumsey is a farmer. He has always been a Republican, and is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of Springfield.
JOHN SHANER, a native of Pennsylvania, was born Match 1, 1808, and settled in Lucas County in 1865. Married Elizabeth Smie, June 22, 1826. Mrs. Shaner was born July 27, 1803. Their children are: Russel M., Elizabeth J., Isaac, John, Thomas, Adam, Martha, Wesley and Abiah. Mrs. Sharer died July 16, 1861.

MARY J. SLUSSER, born in Pennsylvania, May 25, 1842, moved to Stark County, Ohio, when two years old, with her mother, Catharine Brindle. Mrs. Brindle was born December 2, 1820. April 16, 1862, she (Mrs. Slosser) married Mr. J. Burchfield, of Lucas County; he died June 13, 1870 their children are: Adah, Lettie, Hettie and Clarence. For her second husband she married Albert Slusser, of Stark County, Ohio, September 14, 1875. He died June 21, 1878. Mrs. Slusser carries on the farm.
RUFUS H. TRUMBULL was born in Springfield Township, Lucas County, May 3, 1845; was married to Miss Alice Y. Files. daughter of Sylvanus B. and Martha (Jewett) Files, November 29, 1875. Mrs. Trumbull was born in Port William, Ohio, January 17, 1854, Their children are: Lue Ida, born December 16, 1876, died February 25. 1877; David G., born December 24, 1877; Alta A., October 28, 1880. Mr. Trumbull was in the late war, remaining there for three years and a halt in all the engagements of his regiment. e was wounded at the battle of Chickamauga, September 19, 1803 ; was orderly sergeant for Major-General Beard. He was honorably discharged with his regiment July 11, 1805. Mr Trumbull's ancestors were among the first settlers in his native town. Patents were granted to them as early as 1825. Mr. Trumbull had a brother who died while in the service. Mr. Trumbull is now Justice of the Peace of Springfield Township and has held the office for a number of years. He has of late years been largely engaged in the cranberry culture, making a success of it. His address is Holland, Ohio.

ALFRED AMES, a native of New York State, was born January 31, 1837; came to Ohio and settled in Huron County in 1845, and in 1884 he removed to Lucas County. Married Miss Mary Burton, of Olena, Ohio, July 4, 1852; she was born in New York Stale, August 26, 1832. Their children are : Co melia A., Moat W., Alter J., Ellen M., Burton C., Ralph L., Minnie and Homer. Mr. Ames is a farmer.
WILLIAM BIRD, born in Lucas County, Ohio, November 5, 1844. Married Miss Lenora Calkins in 1864; she died in 1879. He married for his second wife Miss Irene Baker, of Swanton, April 13, 1882. He enlisted in Company I, Fourteenth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in 1861, and served through the war. His business is farming.
S. BROWN, a native of Germany, was born January 20, 1828; came to America in 1834 and settled in Lucas County in 1850. Married Miss Virginia Mollenkopf in 1848; she was born in Germany in 1830. They have eight children, all living. He is a farmer.
DAVID W. CLAUSON was born in New York State, March 29, 1837; came to Lucas County, Ohio, with his father (David Clauson) in 1852. Married Mary Hogle of Fulton County, Ohio. Their children are: William, Harry, Frank, Lucetta, Lola, and Lepha. Mr. Clauson is a farmer.

Had nine children. he married for his second wife Henrietta Rhinehart, June 4, 1872. She was born in New York State, October 16, 1833. His business is farming.
L. HORNER, a native of Vermont, was born July 31, 1818; came to Lucas County in 1860. Married Miss Hattie Sherwood of Fulton County, Ohio: she was born in Clyde, Ohio, July 17, 1836. Mr. Horner is a farmer.
GEORGE GIRDHAM, born in England July 18, 1822; came to America in 1851 and settled in Huron County. In 1852 went to "Pucker Brush," Ohio. Lived there one year. Removed to Swanton, where he now resides. Married Mary Beach, May 15. 1844. Their children are: Thomas, Elizabeth and Michael G. Mr. Girdham is a farmer.
ABRAHAM KALEY was born in Pennsylvania, August 12, 1820; in 1840 he removed to Richland County, Ohio, and in 1852 came to Lucas County and settled where he now resides. Married Miss Elizabeth Stair, of Richland County, Ohio, April 30, 1840; she was born in Pennsylvania, August 20, 182.. Their children are: Anna, John H., Lucretia, Sarah .J., Augusta and Orphelia. Mr. Kaley's business is farming.
M. K. LEE, born in Milan, Erie County, Ohio, June 1, 1842. Enlisted at Townsend, Huron County, Michigan, in Company K, First United States Veteran Volunteer Engineers, August 27, 1864; was mustered out July 1,1865, from Chattanooga, Decatur, Nashville and Memphis road block-house. After the war he returned to Huron County. Mr. Lee is a wagonmaker by trade. His father, Jacob Lee, was born in Steuben County, October, 1800; died December 20, 1873. His mother, .Jerusha Wright, was born in New York State. Mr. M. K. Lee married, July 4, 1867. Sophia Hay, who died June 20, 1868. Married his second wife September 8, 1880. Mr. Lee came to Swanton Township, .June 4, 1883. Has been Township Treasurer. He is a farmer, dealer in pumps, wind mills, and agricultural implements.
DARWIN J. NOBLE, a native of New York State, was born October 28, 1823. In 1852 he married Betsey M. McClure; had five children-four bois and one daughter. Air. Noble is a farmer.
WILLIAM A. PARKER, born March 21, 1821, in Steuben County, New York, remained there until 1868, when he moved to Swanton, where he has resided ever since. Married, Nov. 17, 1857, Mary M. Gillett, who died February 17, 1884. The re stilt of their marriage was Flora A. and Elmer S. Mr. Parker is a farmer.
THOMAS RUSSELL, born in Stark County, Ohio, April 27, 1833. When 14 years old cattle to Lucas County; settled at Swan Creek. Moved to his present home in 1856. Married Jemima Wiley in 1851. Seven children have been born to them-five living, Mr. Russell has been Trustee, School Director, and at present is Supervisor. In politics he is a Republican.
WILLIAM ALFRED SCOTT was born August 21, 1823, in Fairfield, Huron County, Ohio; came to Lucas County (then Wood) in April, 1835. Married, April 8, 1850, Eleanor Johnson. Rufus Chester, brother of William A., was born March 29, 1845, in Lucas County. He married, March 29, 1867, Harriet Rogers. Philo B., and Emelia Scott, parents of the above, came to Swanton Township in 1834, where they entered a farm. Mrs. Scott died in April, 1865, and her husband in April, 1874.
LUDWIG SHAFFER, a native of Germany, was born January 29, 1814. Came to America in 1832; came to Lucas County in 1853, and settled in Swanton Township. In 1843 he married Mary Brown. They have ten children, all living. Mr. Shaffer is a farmer,
HENRY O. ZEIGLER, born in Paint Township, Wayne County, Ohio, January 30, 1817, where he remained 28 years. Taught school 15 years. Moved to Defiance County in 1848. In 1805 he began farming. Enlisted July 26. 1802, in Company D, 100th Regiment, as musician. Mustered out at Camp Nelson, Kentucky, in 1864. In 1865 moved to Fulton County, and in 1878 to Swanton Township. Married, March 5, 1846, Elizabeth Miller; had tell children, seven living. Mr. Zeigler is a member of the G. A. R. Was elected Justice of the Peace in 1883.

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP.
LEONARD H. BRAGDON, son of Samuel B. and Sybrina Akin, was born in Jefferson County, New York, June 2, 1829. His father was a cooper and carpenter, which trade he also learned. In 1847 Leonard H. went to Lynchburgh, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where he worked at his trades about six months. Then went to Warren, Trumbull County, and Colo Creek, Erie County, Ohio. Came to Sylvania in 1848. Went thence to Logansport, Indiana; Batavia, Illinois; was in Chicago in 1850. Went thence to New Orleans, where be joined the Filibustering party, led by the Spaniard Don Lopez, to annex Cuba to the United States, and went to Cuba. Returning to the United States he went to Mobile, Alabama; Pittsburg and Lynchburgh, Pennsylvania. At the latter town he married Minerva Isabella Carver, July 14, 1852. Four children : Helen A., born August 16, 1853, now wife of John Blaine; Isabella G., born October 17, 1854, now wife of James Hoffman; Hattie, born August 5, 1857; William D., born February 16, 1860. Went to Meigs County in 1855, where he remained until 1861 when he removed to Sylvania. Enlisted, August 14, 1862, in Company H, 111th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. as private, and was promoted to Sergeant. Was discharged July 7, 1865, at Indianapolis, Indiana, from the 23d Army Corps (Tennessee). Was wounded by spent ball at Huff Ferry, Tennessee, in leg, November 14, 1863; and again November 16, 1863, at Campbell Station in Kentucky Campaign. Participated in the battles of Campbell Station, Huff's Ferry, and all the battles in and around Mulberry Plain, Danville. Was transferred, August 6, 1864, to 17th Veteran Reserve Corps, after he was wounded. After the war he returned to Sylvania, remaining there until 1872, when he removed to West Unity, Williams County, Ohio. In November, 1879, went to Greenup, Greenup County, Kentucky. Returned to Sylvania. Is a Prohibitionist in politics. His wife is still living. Has a son in hotel at Put-in-Bay.
WALLACE F. CHAMBERLIN, born in Shalersville, Ohio, November 6, 1846; son of Francis and Caroline (Colby) Chamberlin, who settled in Lucas County in 1850. W. T. Chamberlin married September 11, 1871, M. Eva Haight, born in Winona, Minnesota, February 5, 1816. During the War he was several months in the employ of the Government as machinist, at Nashville, Tennessee. Was one of the proprietors of the Sylvania Flouring Mills.
PELEG T. CLARKE, son of George and Mary (McDonald) Clarke, was born in Waterville, Maine, December 4.1809. He has been twice married. His first wife, Clarissa P., to whom he was married September 15, 1836, was a daughter of John White, one of the earliest settlers in Lucas County. Her children are: John A., born August 17,1838, died November 3, 1854; James W., born September 2, 1839, died April 29, 1872; Albert W., born August 30, 1841, died October 9, 1841; Alford H., born October -, 1842, resides in Denton, Texas; William R, born January 23, 1845, resides in Toledo; Clarissa E., born April 20, 1847, died March 15, 1848; Mary E., born January 11, 1849, died September 11, 1850. Mrs. Clarke died November 2, 1850. Mr, Clarke's second marriage took place in Madison County, New York, February 3, 1856. His wife, Fannie M., is the daughter of William and Hannah (Sherwood) Payne. One child, Willie McKnown, was born to them January 8, 1861. Alfred and William Clarke were soldiers in the War of the Rebellion; the former being a member of the 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and the latter of Battery H, Light Artillery. P. T. Clarke settled in Lucas County, in 1832. From 1858 to 1864 he was Clerk of the Court of Lucas County Common Pleas. He was also Infirmary Director one term and served as Justice of the Peace for many years. His Post Office address is Sylvania.
THOMAS COSGROVE, M. D., was born in Cayuga County, New York, in 1832. His parents were Thomas Taylor Cosgrove, born in Washington County, New York, in 1807, and Betsey Wickware Mooney, born in Madison County, New York, in 1809. Dr. Cosgrove studied in the office of Dr. Robert Stephenson, Adrian, Michigan. He attended college at Ann Arbor (University of Michigan), in 1864 and 1865, graduating in the year 1871 at the Detroit Medical College, He first settled in Adrian, Michigan, coming to Sylvania in 1865. The Doctor married Miss Harriet Maria Lovewell, of Whiteford Township, Monroe County, Michigan, in the year 1858, where she was born in the year 1811. They have five children, three sons and two daughters, viz.: Thomas Taylor, born in 1860; Arba Alonzo, born in Sylvania in 1865; Hattie Estella, born in Sylvania in 1867; Carrie Maria, born in Sylvania in 1873, and Parke Leon, born in Sylvania in 1878. The Doctor is a Mason, a member of the American Medical Association, the Northwestern Ohio Medical Association, the Toledo Medical and the Detroit Alumni Association (Detroit, Michigan), also of Castle Whiteford, Knights of the Golden Rule (Commander and Medincal Examiner), Board of Education, and Council of Sylvania.
WILLIAM A. FROST, M. D. son of Alonzo P. and Nellie V. Frost, was born in Oakland County, Michigan, 1853. His early education was received at the High School at Pontiac, Michigan. After leaving this institution he taught school about six years at Pontiac and vicinity. In 1878 he commenced the study of medicine in the Homeopathic Department at the University at Ann Arbor, Michigan, where, after the completion of his full course, he graduated in 1880. During the same year he moved to Sylvania, where he has since successfully carried on the practice of his profession, being the only physician of his School in the Township. In the fall of 1882 he married Clara E. Danforth, of Sylvania, daughter of James S. and Hannah Danforth. The issue of this marriage has been two children: Fred D. and Bessie L. Dr. Frost is a member of the Ohio State Society, and a communicant of the Congregational Church of Sylvania, and professionally has succeeded in building up an extensive practice.
THOMAS B. HANKS, M. D., son of Daniel and Hannah Hanks, was born in Trumbull county, Ohio, February 7th, 1846. He remained at home until he was fifteen years old, when he became fireman on the Atlantic & Great Western Railroad. After one year on the railroad he came to Warren, Trumbull county, where he attended school. December 15, 1864, he enlisted in Co. A, 171st Regiment; was discharged at Johnson's Island August, 1864. After the war the family moved to Hiram, Portage county, where Thomas B. attended Hiram College and at the same time was engaged in the drug business with A. J. Squires. He remained in Hiram until 1872. Attended `the Cleveland Medical College, from which he graduated in 1873. Commenced practice at Toledo Insane Asylum, remaining there until 1875, when he came to Sylvania. Married, in 1873, Lizzie Graves, who lived but a short time. For second wife married Clara White, October, 1880; one child, Wade, born June 22, 1882, now deceased. Mr. Hanks is a member of Page Post, No. 471,G. A. R. In politics a Republican. Is president of the board of education. Has been Quartermaster of Page Post since its organization, having been re-elected twice.
CHARLES HASTY was born in the State of Maine, January 16, 1799. He married Miss Electa Goodenough Eaton, October 15, 1837, Mrs. Electa G. Hasty was born in Vermont, January 13, 1812. They came to Lucas County and settled in Maumee,

afterwards moving to Sylvania Township, where Mr. Hasty purchased a farm, living on it till March 14, 1871, when he died. Five children were born to them, as follows : Julia Electa Hasty, born September 21, 1838, in Maine, died May 7, 1840; Emerson Eaton Hasty, born January 11, 1840, at Standish, Maine ; Charles Frederick Hasty, born January 2, 1845, Maumee City, Ohio, married Nettie A. Wilson, June 13, 1872, of Sylvania, Ohio; James Albert Hasty, born November 2, 1846, Maumee City, Ohio, married Lottie C. Holcomb, February 24, 1869, of Decatur, Illinois; John Philbrick Hasty, born January 7, 1855, Richards, Ohio. Mrs. Electa C. Hasty is still living on the old homestead, enjoying the comforts of a good old age, with her children and grandchildren about her.
NICHOLAS HUBER, of Sylvania, was born at Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, in 1833. He emigrated to America in 1850 and settled in Monroe County, Michigan. In 1872 he removed to the City of Toledo, where for several years he carried on the ice business with his brothers. In 1881 he purchased his present business in Sylvania, where he has since resided. In 1858 he married Margaret Whitestone, to whom has been born nine children, seven of whom are now living. Mr. Huber's Post Office address is Sylvania.
MILES LATHROP was born in the Town of Pike, Alleghany County, New York, October 7, 1831, being the third son of Lucien B. and Bermellia (Cleveland) Lathrop. In ,1835 his father removed to Richfield Township. In 1844 he removed with his father to the present home of Mr. Lathrop in Sylvania. Here he remained with his father, attending the Public Schools and assisting in the farm duties until 1852, when he became fireman of a locomotive on the Michigan Southern & Northern Indiana Railroad, his brother-in-law, William B. Warner, being engineer. In 1854 Mr. Lathrop became an engineer; in January of this year he had charge of the engine which drew the first passenger train out of the Union Depot at Toledo on the Lake Shore & Michigan Central Road. He continued as engineer until 1864, when he obtained a Lieutenant's commission from Governor Brough, with power to recruit a military company, which resulted in the formation of Company B, 189th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, of which he was made Captain and served until the close of the war, being mustered out at Nashville in October, 1865. On his return home he resumed his place as engineer, and after serving in that capacity was made engineer dispatcher, with headquarters at Adrian, Michigan. In 1867 he became passenger conductor and continued as such until 1872, when he retired from railroad life. Since then Mr. Lathrop has held several official positions in the Township, having been Mayor for three terms, and at the present time is serving his fourth term as Justice of the Peace. January 16, 1854, he married Miss Julia, daughter of Captain H. D. Warren, one of the earliest settlers in this vicinity, having first visited the Maumee Valley in 1816, To Mr. and Mrs. Lathrop three children have been born, two of whom are now living: Frank W., born October 16, 1855; Sarah P., now wife of H. H. Seaman, born March 18, 1857; and Fred A., born August 26, 1860, and died April 13, 1882. Mr. Lathrop's mother (Bermellia Cleveland) died in 1844, and his father in 1873. Mr. Lathrop is a member of Forsyth Post, Grand Army of Republic, of Toledo, and is a citizen of Sylvania respected and esteemed.
CHARLES MICHAM, born in Lucas County, Ohio, April 30, 1852. Married, October 1, 1879, to Hattie Reynolds. Have had three children, two of whom are living.
DAVID EDWARD REYNOLDS was born June 19, 1850, on the old homestead in Adams Township. Married Clista Micham December 24,1872. One child, Jessie May, was born to them Sept. 27, 1873. Mr. Reynolds moved to Sylvania township July 20, 1881, and is right on the boundary line of Adams township, his south line is the dividing line. Mr. Reynolds has been trustee of township one year and supervisor. In politics is a Democrat.
AARON B. WEST, son of William and Sabrina (Baker) West, was born in Monroe County, New York, March 18, 1825; he removed to Monroe County, Michigan, in 1846, remaining there until 1852. From - 1852 to 1861 he was employed as teacher in Toledo Public Schools, chiefly as principal of the Grammar School. From 1861 to 1868 he was again a resident of Monroe County, Michigan. In 1868, having been previously appointed Superintendent of Sylvania Public Schools, he removed to Sylvania Village, of which place he has ever since been a resident, and remained in charge of the schools about 13 years. He was first appointed School Examiner of Lucas County in 1855, by Hon. Horace Thacher, then Probate Judge; and he has held the office ever since, except when absent from the County. He was married in Toledo, Ohio, December 26, 1853, to Mary C. Titus; she was born in the City of New York, February 7, 1826, and is a daughter of James I. and Anna F. (Weber) Titus, who in 1849 removed to Lucas County. The living children of A. R. West are Emma W. (Comstock), Anna C., Henry T., and Edward B., three others having died in infancy. FRED ALLION was born in Germany May 13, 1825; came to America, September 7, 1832, and settled in Lucas County in 1834. Married Rickey Karn, July 4, 1855; she was born in Germany in 1833, and died May 4, 1886. Mr. Allion is a farmer. Post office address, Bailey, Ohio.
GEORGE O. BAILEY, born in Danbury, Connecticut, October 23, 1843; removed to Waterville Township in 1874. Enlisted, September 16, 1861, in the 41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served until November, 1865 ; participated in 23 hard battles, and many skirmishes, without a wound. Married, June 18, 1871, Margaret Kleinhaus. Mr. Bailey is a farmer. Post Office address, Bailey, Lucas County, Ohio.
OSCAR W. BALLOU, born in Waterville, Lucas County, Ohio, October 1, 1836, son of Orson and Emily (Underwood) Ballou, who settled in Lucas County, in 1818. Orson Ballou died October 15, 1853; his wife, Emily, died May 18, 1864. Oscar W. married, September 20, 1863, Lina Eastwood; their children are: Clifford G, and Minnie O. Oscar W. served four months in the Union army. His brother, Orson G., served two years; was Lieutenant in Company F, 130th Regiment, and died in Libby Prison. Oscar W. Ballou is a farmer. WILLIAM BECK was born in Centre County, Pennsylvania, September 10, 1847; came to Ohio with his parents when two years old. They settled in Seneca County, Ohio. When 16 years old he enlisted in the 55th Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantry, Company G, and served until the close of the war. He received an honorable discharge at Cleveland, Ohio, June -, 1865. He married Miss Sarah E. Gill, of Huron County, Ohio, July 14, 1869. They have six children: Emma, William H., Burt, Clara, Chester A., Ida V. For many years Mr. Beck lived in Miltonville, Wood County. Post Office address, Waterville. In politics he is a Democrat.
LEWIS BENNETT, M. D., was born in Romulus, Seneca County, New York, April 18, 1828. When

sixteen years of age he came west and settled in Michigan, and for a number of years taught school. During his residence in the Wolverine State he lived in Detroit, Monroe and Woodhull. He began the study of medicine with Dr. House, of Woodhull, and graduated from the Eclectic Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1850. Afterwards he returned to Michigan and for a number of years practiced medicine in Mason, County seat of Ingham County. In 1867 he removed to Waterville and remained there until 1872, when he opened an office in Whitehouse. He has been married twice. His first wife was Miss Lucretia Hoadly, of Woodhull, Michigan; she died in 1864. He then married Mrs. Mary A. Holden, daughter of Alexander Dobie, of Alaiedon, Ingham County, Michigan. He has five children, viz.: John M., Hiram S., William A., George H. and Louie. The Doctor is a leading Democrat of his town. Post Office address, Whitehouse, Ohio.
DR. EBEN BRADLEY was born in Williston, Vt., March 20, 1828. He married Miss Cynthia P. Farrington of Newark. Vt., March 17, 1854. They have had seven children, five of whom are living: William W., Albert J., Henry S., Grace I. and Lydia S. His ancestors came to America in 1630, and were among the very first settlers of Boston. He came to Lucas county in 1855. For many years he was a prominent sheep-raiser. Since be has resided in Lucas county he has practiced medicine. He was the first homeopathic physician west of Toledo in the Northern counties of Ohio. He has always been foremost in doing what he could to promote the welfare of his town. No person ever appealed to him for help that it was not readily responded to so far as his means permitted. For several years he has been prominently identified with labor organizations of the county. His residence has been in the village of White House since coming to Ohio.
DAVID W. CANFIELD, a son of Caleb and Martha (Butler) Canfield, was born in Broome County, New York, in 1841. Shortly after his parents removed to Cattaraugus County, New York. Here he remained until 1861, assisting his father on the farm. At the latter date he went to Fulton, Ohio, and engaged in the grocery business, which he continued until 1870, when he removed to White House and for twelve years carried on the lime kiln and stone quarry business. In 1882 he erected his present hardware store in the central portion of the village of White House, and has since conducted a general hardware business. He is also interested as a partner in the dry goods store of Canfield & Marston. His attention is also directed to farming, owning two farms in the Town ship, which he personally manages, Mr. Canfield was married in 1866 to Sarah Kimber, a daughter of Harvey Kimber, to whom three children have been born : Harvey C., born in 1867; Marmaduke W., born 1869; and Adelia V., born 1874.
MRS. RACHAEL CRIPLIVER, widow of John Cripliver, was born in 1820. Her father was Abraham Sheplar, who removed to Waterville, Lucas County, in 1833, where he resided until his death in 1867. Mrs. Cripliver was one of the earliest settlers in the Township of Waterville, in 1837, and with her husband lived upon a farm near the Village of White House until his death. Since then, with a short residence at Sandusky, she has resided in the Village of White House. Mrs. Cripliver has had nine children, seven of whom are living. They are: Mary, now wife of Stephen Burnett, Waterville, Ohio; Lucinda, wife of George Harkam, Wyandotte County, Ohio ; John Wesley; Margaret Jane, wife of Henry Cobb, White House; Harriet Louisa, wife of William L. H. Lagro, Monclova; Ellen M., wife of Jirah Isham, Sandusky, Ohio; Alice B., wife of J. D. Lincoln, of White House. Mrs. Cripliver has had two sons, both of whom served in the late Rebellion-James and John Wesley-the first of whom enlisted in Company I, 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in 1862; he died of disease contracted in the army, at Bowling Green, December 26, 1862. Her second son, John Wesley, served until the close of the War.
PETER CHRISTMANN, born in Germany, September, 1828; came to America in the fall of 1852, and settled in Lucas county in 1853. Married Miss Louisa Schaer in 1856 ; she was born January 31, 1834. They have had ten children: Jake. Louisa, Sarah, Maggie, Mary, Michael, Libbie, Freddie, Annie and John. Mr. Christmann is a farmer. His Post Office address is Waterville, Ohio.
DANIEL CHRISTMANN was born in Lucas County, Ohio, October 3, 1847. Married Elizabeth B. Hartsing, October 26, 1871; she was born in Wood County, Ohio, March 13. 1853. Their children are: Daniel P., George F., Mary, Albert J., Maggie and Arthur A. Mr. Christmann is a farmer. Post Office address, Waterville.
ADAM T. CHRISTMANN is a native of Lucas County, Ohio, where he was born January 3, 1850. He married Miss Fannie E. Reed, daughter of Elias Reed, of Waterville, September, 1885, They have one child. Mr. C. has been engaged in the mercantile business in Waterville since 1881. August, 1885, he received the appointment of Post Master. He is a member of the Lutheran Church. LOUISA F. COLE, born in Rhode Island, September 30, 1823 ; came to Lucas County with her father, Elisha Phillipps, in 1843, and settled in Maumee Married Hugh Cole of Waterville, May 22, 1848. Mr. Cole was born in New York State, August 20, 1816. Had five children, three living: Jennie A., born 27, 1851; Charles A.. born August 6, 1849; L F., born September 1, 1854. Mr. Cole had always been a farmer. In politics he was a Republican.
FREDERICK DOSE. a farmer in Waterville, was born in Germany, February 26, 1828; came to America in 1860. Married Kate Anglebek May 2, 1860; she was born June 24, 1837. Had five children, four living: Fred, born June, 24, 1864; Amelia, born .July 17, 1867; Mary, born April 2, 1869; Caroline, born October 22, 1874; Annie, born November 4, 1877. In politics Mr. Dose is a Democrat. He is a member of the Lutheran Church of Waterville.
JOHN DUNKELBERGER, native of Pennsylvania, was born June 2, 1842; came to Lucas County in 1866. Married Utica Boyer, January 13,1867; she was born March 2, 1847. Their children are: Charles, Phebie and Eliza. Mr. D. enlisted in Company F, 184th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, in 1864; was mustered out July 18, 1865 He was an inmate of Libby Prison for three months. At present is Post Master and keeps a general store. Post Office address, Bailey, Ohio.
FRED C. DODD was born in Toledo, May 3, 1857. His father, Elijah Dodd, was for many years a leading citizen of Lucas County. He was Sheriff of the County two terms-1850 to 1854. He died October 24, 1876, aged 71. Fred married Miss Mollie Gunn, of Napoleon, Ohio, March 13, 1883. He was elected, on a union ticket, a member of the Common Council of Waterville, at the spring election of 1887. He is a member of Wakeman Lodge, F. and A. M., No, 522; and is one of the leading Democrats of his town. Post Office address, Waterville, Ohio.
SAMUEL DOWNS, M. D., was born at what is known as the " Presbyterian Missionary Station," in Wood County, Ohio, October 4, 1846. His father, Benjamin Downs, came to the Maumee Valley, from Connecticut, about the year 1835; his death occurred September, 1847, aged 44. The Doctor was a student at Ann Arbor in 1869, and graduated from the

Miami Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio, in February, 1873. June 28, 1877, he married Miss Mar Isham, daughter of J. G. Isham, of Waterville. They have three children, viz.: Jirah, Frank and Rex. The Doctor is a member of Wakeman Lodge, F. and A. M., No. 522. He has practiced medicine iN Waterville, since 1873. He is a Republican. Post Office address, Waterville, Ohio.
CHARLES C. ENGELHART was born in Germany, May 28, 1828; came to America in 1841. Married Anna Tanner, of Toledo, July 10, 1853; she was born in Switzerland, February 3, 1851. The result of the marriage was two children: Amelia and Frank. Mr. Engelhart is a harness maker by trade; also a railroad engineer. At present he is proprietor of the City Hotel at White Rouse.
JACOB FAUCHER, born January 12, 1817. Married Electa (Jane) Aldrich, in 1843; she was born January 12, 1821; her death occurred October 22, 1879. Jacob Faucher died February 8, 1882. They had 14 children; those living are; Catharine, William T. Leonard, Oscar, and Colonel C. C. C. Colonel married Caroline Heater, March 1, 1882. The result of the marriage was two children: Alice and Fred. Mr. Faucher is a farmer. Post Office address, Bailey.
JOHN FOSTER, only son of Robert and Mary Ann (Farmer) Foster, was born in England, near the City of York, in 1834. His father was born at the same place in 1804, and came to America in 1840 with four children and settled in Clark County, Ohio, where he remained for four years, after which he removed to the farm now occupied by his son John, near the old Indian Reserve line, one mile from the Village of White House. Robert Foster died July 27, 188'3, awl his wife April 16, 1882. John Foster married Elizabeth Groff, daughter of Rudolph and Christiana Groff, August 31, 1862. To them four children have been born : Eva B., born June 25, 1864 ; Robert, born June 17, 1867; Richard R., born July 4, 1870; and Welcome, born October 1, 1876. Mr. Foster enlisted in Company C,128th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in March, 1864, and was mustered out of service in July, 1865, at Columbus. He has held the office of Township Trustee. JOHN HERTZFELD, a native of Germany, was born December 28, 1814; came to America in 1850 and settled in Lucas County. Married Miss Margaret Fleet, in 1840; she was born in Germany, in 1814, and died in 1851. Their children are: Jacob, Peter, Stephen, Mary, Elizabeth, and John, lie married for his second wife Catharine Rode, in 1852; she was born in Germany, December 27, 1817. Mr. Hertzfeld is a farmer. ABRAM HILTON was born in Huron County, Ohio, October 17, 18'30 John Hilton, his father, came to Ohio from Albany, New York, at an early day and settled in Huron County. He was a reason and builder. He died 30 years ago, aged 63. His wife was a native of Bath, New York ; she died in 1875, aged 77 years. Abram married Miss Jane Goby, of Seneca County, Ohio. They have six children, viz.: Elizabeth N., Altha, Florence R, Belle H., Oscar and L. Nora. Mr. H. is a mason and bricklayer. He has always been a zealous Democrat. GEORGE W. HOOBLER was born in Middleton Township, Wood County Ohio, September 7, 1836. His father, George W. Hoobler, was one of the very early settlers of Wood County. He came from Pennsylvania to Perrysburg in 1820, and for many years conducted a large cooperage business. He died in 1850, aged 57 years. The subject of this sketch married Miss Alvira E. Hale, of Urbana, Ohio, March 3, 1858. They have four children, viz.: George W., Jr.; Elba V., Wilbur P. and Asher, For many years Mr. H. has been engaged in the butcher business. He is a Democrat. FRANCIS M. HEATH, son of Nehemiah and Elizabeth (Davis) Heath, was born in Nashville, Ohio, August 25, 1841. In his father's family were eight children, six of whom are now living-four boys and two girls. Mr. Heath's parents removed from Nashville to Heath's Corners, Wayne County, in 1843. Here his father engaged in the dry goods business, remaining there until 1848, when he removed to Henry County, Ohio. Mr. Heath's early education was secured at Westerville, and subsequently at Oberlin, and Maumee. At the breaking out of the Rebellion he was among the first to respond to the Union cause, enlisting as Corporal in Company F, 68th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, November 21, 1861. e was discharged March, 1863, but re-enlisted the 20th of the following November in Company G, 128th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. By an accident, on Johnson's Island, September 24, 1864, he received injuries from the effects of which he never recovered. He was honorably discharged from military service, July 13, 1865, at Camp Chase. On his return home he entered Oberlin College, and there completed the commercial course of studies, after which he began teaching in the Public Schools of Henry County. In 1866 he came to White House and began teaching in the District School of that date. The following year he was instrumental in organizing the White House graded School, and from that date to 1873 he filled the position of Superintendent. In school work Mr. Heath has ever taken a deep interest, while by nature he possesses in a marked degree the qualities of a practical and successful instructor. In the establishment of graded schools in other localities, he has rendered valuable assistance. After his retirement from teaching lie opened a drug store in White House, which he has since conducted. For the last six years his prescription clerk has been Miss Carrie S. Pray, a regularly licensed pharmacist, and one of the first ladies to fill a similar position in Northern Ohio. Mr. Heath is a Republican in politics and has served four terms as councilman and for two years as Mayor of White House. In 1874 he was appointed Post Master by President Grant, a position lie held for 12 years, September 30, 1868, he married Miss Abigail Kimber, a daughter of Harvey Kimber, an early settler of this section of Ohio. But one child, Homer Heath, born August 14, 1878, has been the issue of this marriage. Mr. Heath resides in the village of White House, and is a. citizen respected and esteemed. He is a member of Ray Heller Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of which be is Commander.
JOHN HOLLIKER, son of John and Eva (Cripliver) Holliker, was born January 22, 1846. His father came to Waterville township in 1833, while his mother was another early settler in this region. His father died December 30, 1881, and his mother May 3, 1885. Their children are the following, in order of birth: Susan, September 13, 1838; Mary, December 3, 1840, died May 21, 1881; Isaac, July 14, 1843, died January 29, 1884; Jacob B., May 31, 1848; David, September 25, 1851 ; Elizabeth, August 14, 1853 ; Caroline, October 1, 1856. John Holliker married Lida Richter, December 23, 1884, and now resides on the old family homestead about one mile from the village of White House. HENRY LEU, a native of Switzerland, was born June 16, 1833; came to America in 1858, and settled in Fulton County. Came to Lucas County in 1861. Married Paulina Groff in 1861; she was born in Fulton County, Ohio, April 1, 1841. Their children are: Jacob, Henry, George, John, Teobold, Christian, Mary, Barbria and Anna. REV. THEODOR MEIER is a native of Bavaria, Germany, and was born November 30, 1852, He came to the United States in May, 1873, and for three years lived at Custer, Ohio. Removed to Waterville in June, 1876, to take charge of the German Lutheran Church. During his pastorate he has been very successful in building up a large congregation. He is a graduate of the Theological Seminary of Newdettelsau, of Bavaria, of the class of 1872. He married Miss Lena Schueren, November 29, 1874, of Custer, Ohio; she died March 30, 1886. They had four children: Frederick C, G., Lydia B., Helen K. and Martin A. Mr. Meier is the Secretary of eastern district of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa, A. O. St. and Iowa Synod. EMILIE MURBACH, widow of John Murbach, has resided at White House since 1871. Her husband was born in Switzerland in 1827, and emigrated to America in 1844, settling near Buffalo, New York. In 1859 he removed to Swanton, Lucas County, and in 1864 to the State of Iowa, where he remained until 1871, when he came to White House and commenced the dry goods business, which he continued until 1880. He married Emilie Wueffing, the subject of this sketch. Mrs. Murbach was born in Barmen, Rheinprovinz, Germany, in 1820. To them no children were born, but two girls were adopted who bore their name: Mary and Louise. The latter was married in February, 1882, to A. B Black, to whom one child was born, November 15, 1883. Mr. Black died December 25, 1883. John Murbach died in 1881.

WILLIAM H. PITTENGER was born in Lucas County, October 24, 1843; is the son of John and Sarah Pittenger, who settled in Lucas County (then Wood County) in 1829. His father (John Pittenger) was born in Pennsylvania, December 22, 1808, dying October 6, 1884 ; his mother (Sarah P.) was born in Pennsylvania, March 19.1813. Their children were: William H., Margaret and Henry. William married Alice A. Dart, March 28, 1876, at Waterville; she was born in Lucas County February 14,1855. Their children are : Harry, born December 15, 1876 ; Mary E., born March 5, 1878; John, born December 16,1879; Lucy, born December 3, 1881, died December 9, 1881 ; William J., born March 27, 1883; Frank, born November 30, 1886. JOSEPH RUSSELL was born in Ohio, March 15, 1827; came to Lucas County in 1866. Married Frances White, June 18, 1868; she was born in New York State March 8, 1840, Their children are: Mary, Joseph and David. Mr. Russell is a farmer. Post Office address, Waterville, Ohio.
JAMES SHOEMAKER, son of Thomas and Catharine (Van Fleet) Shoemaker, was born in Waterville Township in 1836. His father came from Pennsylvania, and settled in Waterville Township in 1829. To his parents five sons and one daughter were born, of whom James is the eldest. The remaining children now living are: F. M., C. W. and J. V. Shoemaker. The subject of this sketch remained with his father upon the farm until the breaking out of the Rebellion, when he joined Company I, 14th Regiment, as a private, and was discharged the following August to re enlist in Company K, 67th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in October, 1861, and was discharged in January, 1865. He was wounded at Fort Wagner, .July 18, 1863, his arm being broken. For gallantry he was promoted from the position of private to a lieutenancy. October 29, 1865, he was married to J. E. Gillett, a daughter of Orin and Louisa (Smith) Gillett, who settled in Waterville Township in 1834. After his marriage Mr. Shoemaker settled on the farm where he now resides, about one and-a-half miles from the village of Waterville. Two children are the issue of this marriage: Cora A., born June 29, 1867, and Clarence R., born January 30, 1873. Mr. Shoemaker's address is Waterville.
JOHN H. SPICER, M. D., was born in Perry County, Ohio, May 25, 1856. When yet quite young he developed a taste for the study of medicine. Before entering college he read medicine with Dr. S. S. Richards, of Outville, Licking County, Ohio. In 1885 he located in Waterville, and in 1887 removed to White House. He was Principal of the York Street Schools two years, He has been married twice. His first wife was Miss Mary Hazelton, of Licking County; she died August 22, 1884. For his second wife he married Miss Mamie Searing, of Toledo. They have four children : Charles V., Thomas G., Homer R. and Bertha M. The doctor is a prominent Knight of Labor, and a most zealous Democrat. Post Office address, White House, Lucas County, Ohio.
HENRY STARKWEATHER was born in Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, August 29, 1826. When 19 years of age he went to Chicago. After residing there seven years he removed to Waterville and has remained there since. Thus far the largest Natural Gas well in the Lucas County field is known as the " Starkweather," and is on his property. October 20,1853 he married Miss Mary Woodbury, of Wood County, Ohio; she died December 20, 1867, leaving five children; Mattie, Nellie, Jennie, Horace and Frank. June 2, 1869, he married Mary Wood, and they have three boys : Harry, Fred and William. Two children reside in Waterbury, Connecticut, and two in Texas. THOMAS SHEON was born in Bath, Steuben County, New York, February 17, 1857. He located in Toledo in 1873 and lived there until 1878, when he removed to Waterville to engage in the hardware

business. He has been successful in building up large trade. March 24. 1883, he married Miss Eliza M. Ammon, of Waterville. They have one child : Maggie. Mr. Sheon is the present Treasurer of the Township; also a member of Rushtoboo Lodge, No, 530, I. O. O. F., of Haskins. In politics he is found on the Republican side of the house. LEWIS C. SCHNEIDER, son of John G. and Charlotte (Golner) Schneider, was born January 20, 1849, His father settled on the Maumee River, in the Township of Waterville, in 1835. To his parents were born 14 children, ten of whom are now living. Lewis C. worked on the farm, receiving the scanty educational advantages the public schools afforded until his 19th year, when he commenced to learn the carpenter's and joiner's trade, a business he subsequently carried on for 11 years, and was contractor and builder of most of the public and private buildings in White House. After that he relinquished the building business and opened a livery stable and a saloon, which he has since conducted. He was married, February 20, 1873,. to Margaret O'Mera, daughter of Patrick O'Mera. Two children have been the result of this marriage: Lulu, born February 20, 1874, and Fay Catharine, born December 6, 1881. Mr. Schneider has taken an active part in politics, having served four terms as councilman, constable two years and Deputy Sheriff four years. At present he is a member of the Democratic Central Committee,
A. N. STILES, a son of Milton and Catharine (Bryor) Stiles, was born in the State of Massachusetts in 1836. Shortly after his birth his parents re moved to Medina County, Ohio, where his father engaged in the mercantile business. Here they resided for ten years, when they moved to Sanilac County, Michgan, afterwards moving to White House in 1870. During his residence in Michigan Mr. Stiles was engaged in lake fishery, at one time quite an extensive industry in that region. He was also interested in the lumber trade. After he came to White House he carried on farming and became interested as contractor in the construction of railroads. In 1873 he opened a general store in the village of White House, which he has since conducted, he also owns and cultivates a farm one mile east of the village, upon which he resides. Mr. Stiles is a Democrat in politics and has held several offices of public trust. he has been Township Assessor four years, Town Clerk three years, and Treasurer one year.

MARY A. BONNEY WHITE, born in Maine September 22, 1804; came to Lucas County in 1842. Married Joseph White February 8, 1821. He was born in Maine, January 22, 1796, and died in Waterville, September 12, 1845. Their children are: Nancy, John, Milla, Mary, Olive, Elvira, Francis H. Mr. White was a farmer. ALFRED A. WALP, son of Alexander and Margaret (Griddle) Walp, was born in Waterville, June 4, 1859. At an early age he entered the general store of J. E. Hall and subsequently Pray & Hall. In 1884, in partnership with George Weckerly, he a opened a general store in White House under the firm a name of Weckerly & Wasp. In January, 1886, their partnership was dissolved, since when Mr. Walp has conducted the store alone. He was appointed Post Master of White House in 1886. June 3, 1883, he married Mary Ammon, daughter of Nicholas Amnion. Two children have been born to them: Carrie W., April 1, 1884; and Jacob, November 21, 1887. His Post Office address, White House.
JOHN WECKERLY, son of Martin and Anne (Starrer) Weckerly, was born in the Township of Monclova, November 5, 1850. His father emigrated to this country in 1848 and settled in this section. John Weckerly began to learn the carpenter's trade in 1870, and followed this business for three years. In 1873, in partnership with his brother Jacob, he bought the saw mill about one mile from the village of White House. In 1877 he acquired control of the entire business and has added a grist mill for feed and meal, and a cider mill. In 1880 Mr. Weckerly was elected Township Trustee and laid the office until 1885. In 1886 he was elected Township Treasurer and appointed Deputy Sheriff. His Post Office address is White House.

JOHN C. ALLEN, born at Martha's Vineyard, ,Massachusetts, January 27, 1809. His ancestors were among the first settlers of the island, and were remarkable for their longevity. His great-grandfather lived to be 99, and his wife 103 years of age. Mr. Allen came to Maumee in the Spring of 1835 ; married in September, 1839, Nancy Kirtland, who was born in Geauga County. Ohio, March 8, 1817. Children Lois S., John C. (deceased), Olive K. (died in Washington, D. C., 1886), James F., Noah N. (deceased), Francis E., George C., Henry A., Charles E. and Lucy N. Allen. Mr. Allen was a member of the first City Council and the fourth Mayor of Maumee City. He was in the mercantile business until 1872, when he retired. Address, Maumee, Ohio.
JAMES M. BATES was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, February 19, 1843. He is a son of Adam Bates, who came to Lucas County, from Pennsylvania, in 1849. His father's death occurred in April, 1860. James married Miss Emily H. Jordan, January 26, 1882. Mr. B. has filled various offices in his town; for many years he was a member of the secret service of Ohio. WILLIAM BATES was born in Stark County, Ohio, July 22, 1825; came to Perrysburg, Wood County, in 1832, and then came to Lucas County in 1846. He married Miss Hannah Darling, June 4, 1848. She died in 1863, leaving one child, Dora. He married, for his second wife, Mrs. Jennie Simmons, October 1, 1864. Their children are, Clara M. and Ida May. Wagonmaker by trade. Politics, Republican. THOMAS BROWN, son of Edward and Isabel (Shell) Brown, was born in Haddington, Scotland, March 22, 1828, and came to Maumee in 1859 He was in the service in Company E, 130th Ohio, 100-day men, and honorably discharged at close of their period of service. Married Eva C. Wirth ; their children are-Edward, George (died young), Belle E., Nellie G., and Carrie A. L. Brown. Mr. Brown served nine years as member of the Board of Education. FRANCIS J. BORCK, son of Philip end Magdelina (Barsch) Borck, was born in Prince Ludwig, Germany, May 10, 1810. He came to America in 1832, and settled in Seneca County, Ohio. In 1835 he went to Indiana, and remained there until 1866, when he came to his present farm in Miami, and has remained there ever since. In 1837 he married Margaret Anna Margate. They have had nine children, eight of whom are living. Their names are given in order of their nativity: Frederick, Magdelena, Francis, Mary, Henry, Anna, John end Samuel. Mr. Borck's address is Maumee.
WILLIAM HARVEY BURRITT, M. D., is a native of Ohio. He was born in Wood County, November 28, 1812. His first marriage was to Miss Attie Ayres, daughter of Rev. Joseph Ayres, she died February 24, 1869. For his second wife he married Miss Julia E. Reed, of Waterville, Ohio. He has three children-William R., Charles A. and Julie A. He attended the University of Iowa, lectures at Rush College of Physicians and Surgeons, Chicago, end Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1872 he graduated. For two years he practiced medicine et Fort Wayne with Dr. B. S. Woodward. He votes the Republican ticket. His P. O. address is Maumee, Ohio.
GEORGE E. CHURCH, born in Canada October 16, 1818, came to Maumee in 1844. He married Orretta Marvin, August 31, 1844. She was born in Summit County, Ohio, December 23, 1828. Their children living are Charles E., Erastus E.. Emily G. In his early days he worked et shipbuilding. Since 1850 he has worked at the millwright business. Politics, Democrat. Post Office, Maumee.
MRS. SOPHRONIA DARLING, widow of the late J. S. Darling, was born in the Town of Barre, Orleans County, New York, September 19, 1819. They came to Ohio in 1848, and lived in Cincinnati and Piqua until 1853, when they cane to Toledo, remaining until 1858. In 1861 they moved to Waynesfield Township. Her husband died January 6, 1882. She has three children, one son and two daughters-Harrier., Lora and Edgar. Harriet married John Wilson, of Hillsdale County, Michigan.
SEYMOUR M. DEAN, a son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Parker) Dean, was born in Hampden County, Massachusetts, March 22, 1807. In 1812 his father moved into Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, Canada, where he kept a hotel until his death in 1832. Mr. Dean remained with leis father during this period, and at the same time learned the carpenter's end joiner's trade. After his father's death he removed to Niagara County, New York, where he remained until 1837, when County, came to Maumee City, and has remained there ever since. During this long period he has constructed a large number of public end private buildings in this vicinity. Mr. Dean has been married twice, fist to Mary O. Catlin, December 6, 1838, who died May 24, 1846. His second wife, now living, is Harriet C. Catlin, whom he married September 2, 1847. The issue of his first marriage has been two children, now living-Harriet A., born March 15, 1842 ; Emma J. (now the wife of Luther Myers), born November 8, 1843. Mr. Dean is a citizen highly esteemed, whose long and honorable life has won the respect of all who know him. Already past the allotted age of man, he enjoys unusual health and mentell vigor. WILLIAM B. DICKS, late a citizen of Maumee, was born in Columbia, Pennsylvania, July 9, 1806, and was a son of John B. end Mary (Barber) Dicks. He came from Dayton, Ohio, with his family, to Maumee in 1852, where he resided till his death, January 14, 1874.
PATRICK DOWLING, son of John end Ellen (Hayland) Dowling (deceased), was born in Suncraft, County Kildare, Ireland, February 4.1839. He married Celia O'Reilly, whose parents settled in Lucas County in 1835. Their children are-Eleanor A. (deceased), Mary J. (deceased), Matthew J., Joseph P , Mary E. (deceased), Mary M., Mary C. (deceased), Thomas N., Michael J. M , Patrick F. C., Eleanor A. end Celia. Mr. Dowling has held all the principal Township offices, and was County Commissioner from 1874 to 1877. NICHOLAS ELLETT was born in Germany, February 4, 1848. He came to the United States in April, 1853, and settled at Maumee. He then went to Logansport, Indiana After living there five years he located at Maumee, where he has been engaged in the mercantile business. His father, George Ellett, lived many years in Lucas County ; he died September 8, 1882; his mother died July 3, 1884, aged 63. Nicholas married Miss Clara Feuerstine, May 5, 1874. ANDREW GESSNER was born in Germany, October 10, 1827 ; came to America in 1849; has been a resident of Maumee since 1851, where he was engaged in business for over 30 years. He married Catharine Roff, of Akron, Ohio, in 1854. JOHN GEIGER, one of the earliest settlers in this part of Ohio, was born in Bavaria, Germany, in 1813. He came to America in 1839, and settled in Maumee City. He drove a stage and kept a dry goods and grocery store for many years. He is now engaged in farming, gardening and cultivating of fruit. He married in 1843, Jane Parrin. Nine children have been born to them, only one of whom is now living, Clara, the widow of John Shugar. Mr. Geiger's address is Maumee.
CURTIS HULL, born July 7, 1810, in Berkshire, Township, Broome County, New York, came to Toledo in 1835. In 1836, engaged in the Miami brick business for one year ; was Superintendent of packet on Canal about 1856. Married Frances W. Keller December 31, 1841. She was born at Dayton, Ohio, October 30, 1818. In 1861, he moved on a farm at Maumee. To Mr. and Mrs. Hull were born-Lyman, Ellen, John, Elizabeth and William.
BENNETT HAHN came to America in 1863, from Germany, where he was born August 12, 1842. He lived in Toledo a few years. For the past 18 years he has been a resident of Maumee. In 1870 he married Miss Mary J. Lester, of Michigan. They have eight children, viz.: Isabelle, Frank, Benjamin, Edward, Jane, Anna and Fred. he has been Trustee of Waynesfield two terms. He is engaged in farming, is a Democrat, end receives his mail at Maumee.
FRANK HAMILTON, son of Wyley and Lucinda (Upson) Hamilton, was born in Medina County, November 27, 1821, where his fat her settled in 1811. Mr. Hamilton came to Springfield, Lucas County, with his parents in 1832, where he carried on farming. In 1865 he came to Maumee. For the last 28 years he has been engaged in harness making. He was married December 29, 1843, to Mary Robinson. Two children have been born to them-Wyley, born in

1845, died in 1873; Clara, now the wife of A. C. Miller, born in 1849. Mr. Hamilton enlisted in Company E, 130th O. V. I., in 1864, and was discharged September, 1864. His address is Maumee.
CORNELIUS C. HOWELL was born in Jefferson County, N. Y., March 22, 1848. After living on a farm until thirteen years of age, he was employed in Hoard & Son's gun factory until 1864, when he enlisted in the army. On account of his youth, however. he was rejected, and consequently he remained with the factory until 1867, when, having saved his earnings, he attended school for one year at Watertown. N. Y. He then entered the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, from which he was graduated in 1870, having completed a course in analytical chemistry. He was then engaged as instructor in the laboratory of that University until 1871, when he began a tour of the West, finally, in 1875, locating in Colorado, where he engaged in gold and silver mining. He was one of the pioneers of Leadville, Colorado, and did much toward building that noted mining town, being, indeed, most prominently identified with every enterprise of that thriving city. During the "Leadville Riots" be organized a company which were afterwards known as the "Howell Guards." Shortly after, Gov. Pitkin appointed Mr. H. Brigadier General of the 1st Brigade of the Colorado National Guards, which post he retained during Gov. Pitkin's administration. In 1883 he went to Europe to recuperate his health, traveling over a greater portion of the Old World. Upon his return from abroad, he settled in Columbus, Ohio. During the development of the great natural gas and oil fields in Northwestern Ohio, Gen. Howell was elected Secretary of the Board of Trade at Findlay. At the close of the "excitement" at Findlay, Gen. Howell resigned the position he had held with so much credit to himself and honor to the city, to assist the enterprising citizens of Maumee in developing their territory, and making their superior advantages known to the world at large. Through his efforts the territory immediately adjacent to Maumee has been thoroughly well developed. That he has been unusually successful in his last undertaking, every one in Northwestern Ohio will attest. Gen. Howell is a gentleman of vast research of knowledge, a fund of anecdote which he has created during his extensive travels, and is admired and respected by all who know him. In October. 1881, he was married with Miss Cora Cooper, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, one bright child being the result of that happy union.
JOSEPH C. KILBOURNE, born in Monroe County, Michigan, March 23, 1827, came to Lucas County in 1833 with his parents. His father, Joseph, was born in England, in 1800, and died in Maumee in 1834. His mother, Irrenia (Barned) Kilbourne, was born in Maumee in 1809, and died in 1835. Their children were: Irrenia, Mary, .Julia, Adaline and Joseph. Joseph is a miller by trade. JOHN J. MILLER is a native of Maumee, where he was born October 10, 18,18. He is a son of Ignatius Miller, who came to the United States from Germany about 1840. He married Miss Margaret Bedtinger, of Germany, in Lucas County in 1843. J.J. Miller is a contractor, and has erected many buildings in the City. In 1887 he was elected a member of the Common Council. November 23, 1881, he married Miss Anna Julia Shugar, and they have one child, Julia K. He is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. WILLIAM MILTON was born in Curry, Somersetshire, England, May 18, 1816. He came to America in 1849, and since 1859, he has lived in Waynesfield Township. March 27, 1846, he married Miss Mary Escott, of his native town, and they are ending a pleasant life on their farm situated on the Toledo Plank Road. They have seven children, viz.: William G., Minnie, Emma J., Nettie M., Robert A., Lewis C., and Eliza A. Mr. Milton has served several terms as School Trustee, and three terms as School Treasurer of his town. He is a member of the Episcopal Church. Votes the Republican ticket. He receives his mail at Maumee.
ELIAS C. MOORE, born in Westbrook, Connecticut, May 31, 1833, came to Maumee October, 1844, and married Margaret Emery, November 29, 1848. She was born at Unionville, Ohio, October 20, 1823, and died November 14, 1849. They had one child, ,James H. Mr. Moore married for his second wife, Jane A. North, September 19, 1853. She was born in Torringford, Connecticut, March 11, 1832. Their children are Julian C. and John N. Mr. Moore was engaged in the mercantile business from 1844 to 1870. Post Master 13 years.
JOSEPH MOLLENKOPF, born July 10, 1861, was for several years engaged in the Dry Goods business. August 18, 1884, he married Miss Ella Reed, and they had two children, Mary J. and Fred L. July 16, 1887, after a short illness, Mr. Mollenkopf died. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
JONATHAN NEELEY, born in Pennsylvania, October 2, 1801, came to Lucas County in 1840, and married Elizabeth Kock, March 31, 1830. She was born in Pennsylvania, June 20, 1799. Mr. Neeley died February 26, 1868, and Mrs. Neeley died March 15. 1882. They left one child living, Liddie E. Neeley, born December 5, 1838. Post Office address, Maumee.
MALCOM A. PATCHEN, a contractor of Maumee, was born in Burlington, Vermont, September 23, 1822, and settled in Lucas County, Ohio, in 1842 He married Miss Ph. A. Phillips, February 8, 1848. She was born September 23, 1828. Their children are Francis, Almous, Margaret, Clara, Henry and Minerva. Mr. Patchin is a ship-builder by trade, and in politics a Republican. Port Office, Maumee.
DAVID H. PERRIN was born in River John, Nova Scotia, September 10, 1836. His father settled in Perrysburg, Ohio, in 1837. The subject of sketch married Miss Mary E. DeShanaway in August, 1861, and they have three children: William W., Henry N., and Charles L. Mr. Perrin is a builder, and for several years has built many bridges in Northwestern Ohio. At the first call for troops Mr. Perrin enlisted and served in the Fourteenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and in 1864 again enlisted and served in the 130th 0. N. G. In politics, a Republican. EDGAR T. POTTER was born in St. Albans, Vermont, September 15, 1826. When ten years old he came to Maumee with his parents. His father, Freeborn Potter, was for many years one of the best known fishermen on the Maumee river. He died in 1872, and his wife died five years later, aged 80 years. Edgar T. married Miss Mary Cox, of Maumee, in 1849. She died December 27, 1887. They had three children. Mr. Potter served four years in the Fourteenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. MARK RICHARDSON, born in Ireland, May 23, 1814; came to America in 1835, and settled at Perrysburg, Ohio, October 3, 1843. In 1849 he removed to Maumee City, Ohio, Married Lucinda Meagley, January 31, 1838; she was born in. New York State June 13, 1820. GEORGE W. RHONEHOUSE, M. D., was born in Sandusky City, Ohio, February 2, 1862, and settled in Maumee in 1880. He graduated from the Homeopathic College in Cleveland, in 1880. September 21, 1881, he married Miss Tomerzan Lewis, of Sandusky City, Ohio. They have two children, Lowell B. and William L. Mr. Rhonehouse is a Republican. Post Office address, Maumee.
CHAS, M. SCHIELY, son of Michael and Anna (Scheckler) Schiely, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, December 11, 1840. His father was born in Germany, and was one of the first settlers in Cleveland, having emigrated there in 1828 ; was married there in 1832, and he died there in 1878. Mr. Schielv enlisted in the First Ohio Artillery, Battery K, as private, in 1861. October 20, 1862, he was promoted to First Lieutenancy. He was honorably discharged on account of a wound received at the battle of Gettysburg, July 1, 1863. After his discharge he returned to Cleveland, where he remained until 1864, when he came to Toledo and engaged in the bottling business, as a member of the firm of John Schrink & Co. At the end of two years he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he continued the bottling business for three years. He afterwards was traveling salesman for A. Stephen & Co., Brewers, and for Union Brewing Co. He also traveled one year for Foster Wilder, Wholesale Liquor dealer, and one year for L Franc & Co., engaged in the s:lme line of trade. For two and a half years he carried on the flour and feed business, as a member of the firm of Oeckel & Schiely, on Monroe Street, Toledo; at the expiration of this period his father died, and he was called to Cleveland to settle up his father's business. After this was done he moved upon a farm in West Toledo, Washington Township, where he remained for eight years, when he purchased the hotel property now occupied by him at Maumee, which he still conducts. Mr. Schiely was married March 21, 1871, to Amelia K. Kuhn. One son was born to them, who died in infancy. Mr. Schiely is a Democrat in politics, and at present is a member of the City Council. His address is Maumee.
MICHAEL SCHELLER, born in Germany August 6, 1825; came to America in 1856, and settled in Lucas County; married Miss Julia Fortsch in 1856 She was born in Germany July 28, 1830. Their children are: Catharine, Maggie, Libbie, Barbara, Mary, Anna M., Andrew, Freddie, Dora, and Johnnie. Business, farming. Post Office, Maumee.
HORACE T. SMITH, born in Seneca County, New York, July 5, 1841, settled in Maumee with his parents in 1849. His father. G. W, Smith, was one of the largest ship builders in Toledo, and died March 17, 1886, aged 73. His mother lives with her son, Horace T. July 29, 1867, he married Miss Mary C. Huntsman. They have five children, viz.: Mary E. ,Georgie E., Horace .J., Goldey, Nelson H. Mr. Smith is Vice President of the Board of Common Council of Maumee City, in which Board he is now serving his second term. In 1887 he was elected to serve three years as a member of the School Board. He has a large dry dock at Miami for building and repairing Canal Boats. He is a Republican. P. O. address, Maumee.
JOHN A. SMITH was born in Maumee July 26, 1855. He has been a contractor for several years. He was elected a member of the Common Council at the Spring election, 1887. Previous to that he served one term as City Assessor. May 29, 1877, he married Miss Lydia Ann Coder. They have three children, viz.: Rosa B., Lillie V., George J. JAMES M. SPAFFORD, son of Samuel Spafford; was born at Brighton, Ontario County, New York, in 1809. In 1818 he moved with his father's family and settled at Fort Meigs. Here Mr. Spafford resided until 1856, when he went to Mexico and has resided there and in Central America ever since. Since 1861 he has resided in Guatemala, Central America, and has been engaged in stock farming in 1828 Mr. Spafford married Frances Maria Willard, who died -; one child was the issue of this marriage, Mary Elizabeth, born in January, 1837. May 23, 1877, he again married, Belle Dunham, widow of Captain Frank H. Briggs. To them two children have been born: Frances Belle, October 28, 1879; and Mary Minerva, January 31, 1882, Mr. Spafford represents one of the oldest families which settled in this region. His grandfather, Amos Spafford, before the War of 1812, owned a farm at Fort Meigs. In his father's family were the following children -Jarvis, born October 7, 1803; Lovica, born January 7, 1805; Chloe, born July 7, 1807, the wife of Isaac Hull, now deceased; Amos, born June 25, 1811; Elizabeth, February, 1813, and Samuel N. Spafford. Latter two were born at Fort Meigs. The only two survivors of this family are Chloe and James M. Spafford.
JACOB SPANGLER was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1808; came to Lucas County in 1835. For many years he followed house building. November 15, 1835, he married Miss Ann Reansberry, of Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1885 they celebrated their golden wedding. Among those present were his five children and nine grandchildren. Of a family of eight children, five are living, viz.: Mrs. J. F. Bennett, of Defiance, Ohio; Elliott, of Adams Township, Ohio: Mrs. Mallett. of Defiance, Ohio; Jennie, of Maumee, and George R., of Toledo. Mr. Spangler has occupied his present dwelling house for more than fifty years. When he first settled in Maumee there was very little of the land cleared of woods. His wife is 78 years of age and enjoys good health. Mr. S. has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for over fifty years. He was one of the first members of that Church in Maumee, and has filled all the offices of said Church. In politics has always been Republican.
ADDISON J. TAYLOR was born in Lorain County, Ohio, July 12, 1833; came to Maumee in 1858. Shortly afterward he purchased the Drug Store of Dr. H. Burritt. In 1860 he married Miss Julia Belden, of Lorain County. They have four children-Urie B., Millie, Mortimor, Homer, In politics is Democratic. P.O. address, Maumee.
JOHN VAN HORN is one of the early settlers in the Maumee Valley. He located in the Village of Maumee in the year 1830. He was born in Seneca County, New York, in 1811. He has been married twice; his second wife is still living. He has one daughter, Elizabeth, who married .James Carney, of Maumee. Mr. Van Horn has been '.a member of the M. E. Church for many years.
NICHOLAS WAGENER was born in Prussia, June 11, 1840, and came to the United States April 27, 1872, and settled in Maumee. he married in Germany, and has four children : Lena, Anna M., .John, and Joseph. Lena married John Dohl. For several years Mr. Wagener has been foreman of the Maumee Paper Mill. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of St. .Joseph's Catholic Church. In politics he is a Democrat.
HON. JAMES M. WOLCOTT, of Maumee, was born December 3, 1840. By profession he is a Dentist. He was appointed Mayor of the City in 1885, and was elected to that office in 1887. He married Miss Emma Randall; is a member of the Episcopal Church. In politics has always been a firm Democrat.

Border. of Toledo, February 11, 1848, and has three children: Effie E. (Mrs. W. D. Randall), Zoe Wells (Mrs. E. Church), and Byron. Mr. Wolcott is a General contractor of public works and farmer; Post Office address, Maumee.
THOMAS J. WOLFINGER, son of Tobias Wolfinger. an early settler of Lucas County, was born in Maumee City, May 16, 1840. He married, June 21, 1856, Mary A. Spurck. Two children were the issue of this marriage : George Lewis, born June 17, 1867, died February 23, 1877; and Grace Alta., born September 26, 1875. He was a Carpenter and Painter by trade. August 26. 1861, he enlisted as Corporal in Co. I, 14th O. V. I., and was discharged December 14, 1863. He re-enlisted December 15, 1863, as Sergeant, Co. I, 1st Regiment United States Veteran Volunteer Engineers, and was discharged at Nashville, September 26, 1865. He died June 17, 1875.
J. HENRY WYMAN was born in East Bethel, Vermont, October 13, 1846. When 5 years old he left Vermont with his parents and lived in New York State for two years. He then spent five years in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and from there went to Berlin, Wisconsin. In 1801, he enlisted in the First Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, and was mustered out of the service in October, 1865. He located in Maumee in 1866, and married Alida Frost June 11, 1872. They have three children: Clara L , Nellie A., and William H. Mr. Wyman is engaged in Banking and Mercantile business, and is a member of the Presbyterian Church. In politics he is a Republican.

BARNEY H. KRAMER, born in Germany, December -, 1800; came to America in 1871 and settled in Lucas County. Married Helen Wefer, August 12, 1865: she was born in Germany, January 10, 1839. They had two children: Henry and William. Mr. Kramer died August 18, 1878. Mrs. Kramer married for her second husband Henry Danner, October 4, 1880; he was born in 1825. He is a blacksmith by trade. PERRYSBURG, WOOD COUNTY, OHIO.
HON. ASHER COOK was born in Luzern County, Pennsylvania, May 3, 1822. When 13 years of age he came to Perrysburg with his parents. His father was a mason and builder. Asher learned his father's trade, and worked at it until he was 22 years old, after which he began to study law; since he was admitted to the bar he has continued to practice, notwithstanding his extensive travels. He has visited at different times France, Italy, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Belgium, Egypt and Palestine. His first wife was a daughter of Judge Hall of Vermont. She died during the cholera epidemic of 1854. For his second wife ha married Miss Hitchcock, of Perrysburg. In 1849 he was elected Prosecuting Attorney of Wood County for two years. He served three years as Probate Judge of Wood County. During the Rebellion he was Captain of Company C, 21st Ohio Regiment. In 1861 he was elected to the General Assembly for Wood and Ottawa Counties without a dissenting vote. In 1873 he was elected a member of the Constitutional Convention. He spent the years 1855 6 at Heidelberg University, Germany. Afterwards spent one season at the Paris University. He is a member of the well-known law firm of Cook & Troup, Bowling Green, Ohio Mr. Cook is a member of Phoenix Lodge, F. and A. M., of Perrysburg.
JOHN EBERLY is one of the oldest merchants in Perrysburg. He has been engaged in business there for 35 years. He is a native of Germany and came to America in 1848, and was married shortly after arriving in the United States, and now has a large and interesting family, viz.: Amelia. Fred, Libby, John Jr., Frank, Charles, Francis M., Julia and Clara. His family are connected with the German M. E. Church. Mr. Eberly has been elected to the Common Council several times. Since the organization of the Republican party he has been one of its most earnest supporters.
HENRY HEARN, born in East Kent, England, August 10, 1815; came to America in June, 1857. Married Miss Mary Scott, of his native town. For over 30 years he has lived in Lucas and Wood counties. He has long been connected with the Methodist Episcopal Church. His politics are Republican. Post Office address, Perrysburg, Ohio.
HORATIO A. HAMILTON, M. D., was born in Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut, March 27, 1830. He studied medicine and was graduated from the University of New York in 1852, and opened an office in Springfield, Massachusetts, and practiced his profession there three years. He then came west and located in Perrysburg, where he became a partner of Dr. Peck, and continued as such until the death of the latter, In 1856 he married Miss D. S. Dewey, of Middletown, Connecticut. They have three children Ida, Harry A., and Charles M. Dr. Hamilton is member of Phoenix Lodge, No. 123, F. and A. M., of Perrysburg. In politics he is Republican.
REV. C. F. KAEDING was born in Prussia, July 31, 1841, and cane to America in 1860. While in Prussia he studied at Dettelsau, Bavaria. Shortly after his arrival in the United States he entered Wartburg College, Clayton County, Iowa. After graduating he located in Perrysburg in June, 1864, to take charge as pastor, of the German Lutheran Church, an has continued as such ever since. In 1864 he married Miss Jacobine Seibel, of Perry County, Missouri. He has seven children: William. Dora E., Clara C., Mary C., Frieda A., Agnes S., and Emma L. William, the eldest, is a student at the Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. Rev. Kaeding', congregation consists of 123 families. During hit pastorate of 24 years he has been a most energetic and hard worker, and has organized a church al Waterville, one at Custer, and another at Haskins.
EDGAR L. KINGSBURY is a native of Connecticut. He was born in Bloomfield, Hartford County, February 28, 1845. He settled in Perrysburg in 1878,and has since then been engaged it mercantile pursuits.
HENRY C. LAWRENCE was born in Spring water, Livingston County, New York November 29, 1820. When 15 years of age he came to Perrysburg. Previous to that time he had lived at East Cleveland, Ohio, with his parents, who moved they, from New York in 1828. His mother died of choler, in 1832. His father was in the Mexican war; and died at Detroit in 1849, from a disease contracted while in the army, being 55 years of age at time of

his death. Mr. Lawrence kept the first Livery Stable in Perrysburg. He was twice married, his second wife being Miss Janette F. Forest, of Wood County. They have eight children livin : Sarah, wife of James W. Thompson, deceased; Netta G., wife of D. A. Haylor; Emma A., wife of C. F. Rider; Henry C., Jr.; Ada M., Ila P., Donna C., and Helen E. Mr. Lawrence was one of the large real estate owners of the County. He was a member of Phoenix Lodge, No. 123, F, and A. M. He died April 23, 1888, from dropsy of the heart.
FRANK B. MONROE, M. D., was born in Brooklyn, New York, August 31, 1849. His father. George T. Monroe, was a noted physician of Northern Pennsylvania, where he practiced for many years successfully. He died in August, 1885. Frank B. was a student of his father before entering college. He graduated from the Homeopathic Hospital College, Cleveland, Ohio, February 24, 1878. At one time he held the position of Assistant Surgeon under Dr. C. C. Jones, of the Lake Shore Railroad. In September, 1878, he married Miss Linda L. Lamont, of Troy, Pennsylvania. They have one child : Frank B., Jr. Dr. Monroe is a member of the I. O. O. F. He was one of the charter members of Knights of Pythias of Doylestown, Ohio, and is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics he is a substantial Democrat. DR. J. S. MCCRAY was born in Miami County, Ohio, August 16, 1835. He was stolen by the Indians when but 18 months old, and was held by them until 16 years old. His father found him by the aid of an old Indian Doctor in the State of Kansas. At the berginning of the Rehelion he enlisted from Laporte, In diana, and served four and onerhalf years in the 29th Indiana Volunteers and the 73d. He was confined in Libby Prison 18 months and three days. When the War ended he was honorably discharged. Post Office address, Perrysburg, Ohio.
CHARLES A. POWERS was born in Perrys burg, Ohio, July 2, 1844. He married Miss Sarah Alcorn of Tontogany, Ohio, November 22, 1876, and they have two daughters and one son, viz.: Carrie A., George A., and Lucy E. Mr. Powers has been engaged in the insurance business for a number of years, and he also cultivates a large farm in the vicinity of Perrysburg. He is a leading member of the Presbyterian Church, and at present time is a member of the School Board of his town. In politics he is a Republican.
JAMES H. PIERCE is a native of New York State, where he was born December 19, 1831. When three years of age his parents moved to Blissfield, Michigan. In 1846, he settled in Shelby County, Ohio, where he began life in a practical way. He was one of the first merchants of Toledo. In 1857 he moved to Perrysburg to engage in the Lumber business, and continued it until 1872, in which year he was elected County Commissioner, and for nine years discharged the duties of that position to the complete satisfaction of his friends. He is now serving his second term as Mayor; he is also proprietor of the Exchange Hotel, his hotel building being the first frame structure erected in Perrysburg, it having been built in 1822. In the spring of 1855 he married Miss Sarah Guy, of Shelby County, Ohio, and they have six daughters, viz.: Emma J., Franrces S., Martha A, Carrie A., Jennie E., and Cora M. Mr. Pierce is a member of Phoenix Lodge, No. 123, of Perrysburg. Since the birth of the Republican party he has been a member of that party.
J. H. RHEINFRANK, M. D. is a native of Michigan, where he was born September 28, 1840. He was graduated from the Michigan University in 1864, and immediately located in Perrysburg for the practice of medicine, and has built up a large practice among the best people of the city. In 1866, he married Miss Sopnia W. Bruckner, of Monroe, Michigan, and they have one daughter and three sons, William H., George B., and Eugene. Mr. Rheinfrank is a member of Phoenix Lodge, No. 123, F. & A. M.; and is also a member of the Wood County, Northwestern Ohio, American and Interrnational Medical Societies. He has been Mayor two terms, and is the present Treasurer of the Corporation. He attends the Presbyterian Church. Votes the Democratic ticket.
