In 1864 moved to Sandusky County, Ohio, locating in Clyde, and was elected Clerk Common Pleas Court, serving from 1879 to 1885. On returning from this office resumed the practice of law in Fremont until appointed by President Cleveland as Postmaster of Fremont.
