Looking for information to prove that Hiram Potts, born Pennsyvlania about 1812, was the son of Jesse Potts and Hannah Spacht. Hiram and his brother David were said to have been boatmen on various rivers in Ohio, PA. and Ky. Hiram Potts married (1) Sarah Russler. Their Children were: Christopher, Sarah, Alexander Scott and Ellen. By 1855 , he had married (2) Sarah Adessa White Cleaver. Children of that marriage were: Missouri Louise, Edwin, Augusta, Lemuel M. and George W.
Children of the first marriage were born in Ohio, unknown where. Children of the second marriage were born in Northern Ky., most likely Campbell County, where they resided until Hiram's death in 1884 and Sarah's death in 1900.
Hiram's father, Jesse, has been traced to the Potts line of Quakers which came from Wales in 1682 in Pennsylvania. I need to verify the names of Jesse's children to connect Hiram to the rest. Any assistance or suggestions with this Potts Family would be appreciated.

Dear POTTS descendant,
Do you have among your Potts a Joshua b. c 1720 with daughter, Abigail who married William Coffing. Among their sons were Joshua Potts Coffing b 9 Aug 1788 who maried Mary Ann Davis. I find a Rev. Joshua Potts, a Quaker, turned baptist, with other family surnames (McVay/Veagh, Davis, Sharpless) listed with Welsh Quakers in Chester, Pennsylvania (later Montgomery counties). Our d-in-law's descent is proven back to the immigrant, David, but can't seem to get my husband there. If so, they'd be 8th cousins! Do we connect? I am a descendant of Matilda Potts born February 22, 1831 in Tennessee and died January 14, 1914 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas. She was married on October 30, 1851 to Richard Temolia Mitchell born March 9, 1829 and died June 14, 1900 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas. They were the parents of Lura Dora Mitchell born March 30, 1869 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas and died September 1944. She married Joseph Hayden Robardey born June 18, 1865 in Whitesboro, Texas and died June 21, 1928 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.
Their daughter was Clara Edith Robardey born February 24, 1886 in Ladonia, Fannin County Texas and died August 31, 1950 in Wolfe City, Texas. She was married on June 1, 1909 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Clyde Charlie Jones born May 10, 1882 in Peabody, Kansas and died May 4, 1970 in Groom, Texas. These are my grandparents.
I am Patricia Ann Langwell born March 4, 1938 in Perryton, Ochiltree County, Texas. My uncle, Clyde Robardey Jones, gave me a very tattered copy of "History of the Rebellion in Bradley County East Tennessee" by J.S. Hurlburt and told me we were kin to the Amos Potts written about in that book. My mother has an old photo labeled "Uncle Al Potts" which would fit for Matilda to have been the daughter of Amos Potts since it is mentioned that Amos had a son named Albert. It also seems logical that the Mitchell's in my lineage were the ones listed in this book. Any information you can give me will be appreciated. Since Amos Potts was such a noted citizen of Bradley County it would seem that information would not be too hard to come by. However, I am very new at this (geneology and getting online the last part of August) so I could be mistaken.
Thanks, Pat Weaver

Subject: POTTS, Mary Margaret......Iowa to Missouri
Well, this is my first post to this list as I've only recently joined. I would like your patience as I tell what little I have....and no one seems to know more..... hmmmmmm
Mary Margaret POTTS (also shown as Margaret Mary POTTS) born 23 Oct 1830 in Iowa died: Presumed murdered in Feb 1868 (see notes below) married Laban Taylor FULLERTON on 11 Aug 1846 in Carthage, Jasper, MO (I have a copy of the license) Laban Taylor FULLERTON born: 19 March 1829 died 24 May 1865 One of the children of Mary Margaret POTTS and Laban Taylor FULLERTON; Mary Catherine FULLERTON married a George HUTTON. George HUTTON was hung for the murder of Mary Margaret POTTS (his mother in-law). The hanging was by a group of vigilantes who feared he was in the process of murdering his wife and her siblings. All of this is verifiable. However, there was never a body found and the exact date of her demise can only be supposed based on the testimony of the person I refer to as the accomplice who stated that Mary Margaret POTTS disappeared the first night out..making it happen on February 19, 1868. I have no information on any brothers, sisters, parents or grandparents...no aunts or uncles of this woman and I find that really strange since so much of the family is well-documented.
Please, if anyone has any hints....especially real facts!!!! smile.....let me know. I'll take anything I can get and try to trace whatever clues I can. The rest of the family is pretty well-documented. The tree is quite bare on the POTTS side. Thanks in advance.....and for all your patience but most of all......
God Bless,

Hello Rootsweb Family,
I am looking for information on Elizabeth Potts and her hubby John or John R. I am not sure if the R belongs to him or not. John may have been born in Dunfriesshire Scotland or he may have been born in Virginia. I am not sure. They were married in Missouri in 1848. I would think they would be in the 1840 and /or 1850 census'. There son William was born in Daviess County, MO and died in Quail, Texas. I have a copy of his death certificate and that is how I found out his mothers name with the wonderful help of people on the rootsweb. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, and this may be a nutty request but is there a list, maybe a ships lists of mail order brides? Seems there should be some info somewhere.
Thank you!

Hi; This is a shot in the dark, but I'm getting desperate. Do you have in your ancestors a Claude William Potts. Born, I think, in 1917. Was a member of the CCC's (civilian conservation corps) during 1937 and 1938 (all I have proof of). He was stationed in Fort Collins, Colorado. He spent time in the station hospital in Dec. of 1937 and Jan. of 1938 at Fort Logan, Colo. That's all I am sure of. If you have any thing that may be of help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm brand new to genealogy. Everyone keeps telling me to start with myself and work back. That's what I'm trying to do. There's myself and then my biological father (whom) I've never met or have any more information than this.
Thanking you in advance for any help or suggestions you might have.

Following in my Potts-Armstrong family. Elizabeth in John Armstrongs second wife. His first was Susannah Lindsay. I was also wondering if Elizabeth had been married before. I guessed on her birthday assuming she was younger than John but it is only a guess.

Thank you, Al. Imagine my surprise when going to your website and finding your name was Potts. That's the surname I'm researching. Rebecca Potts my g-g-grandmother m. William B. YOung. I believe she was born in Pottstown, Pa. around 1830 and that he was born in Carlisle, England around 1827. There first child Margaret was born somewhere in Pa. around 1850. So, I figured he came into the country sometime between 1845 and 1849, probably in Philadelphia. I did not find a connection in your list of Potts, but I don't know anything about my Rebecca Potts family. I will make a trip to the Toledo area to LDS church. I see that you are in the Marion, is there a FHC down your way? I need to come to Marion to do other genealogy research anyway. I could do both down there.

Subject: Re: Potts from Wales
Greetings:
I have posted this from time to time, and thought It was `time' to post it again. One never knows if someone new is here. I have two separate resources on Benjamin Potts (m. Margaret Cleek 6-12-1792) and his father who was also listed as Benjamin Potts. I have not been able to prove what these two resources have said, and thought each is similar they also differ in his place of birth.
In `Early Western Augusta Pioneers Book' it says that Benjamin (sr) was born in Wales came to America, settling first in NY, then Pottstown, and Pottsville, (where his son Benjamin was born) and then went to Maryland.
Now for some reason I can not find the name of the other book, but it says the same thing, only differing that Benjamin's son Benjamin was born in Maryland.
Only substantial proof I have is from Benjamin and Margaret Cleeks marriage on, I have Bond, and some land records and wills/probates.
Does anyone here have information, with proof of anything prior to the marriage of Ben and Margaret?
Thank you.

I am looking for antecedents of Thomas Henry Potts and Margaret Campbell. Thomas was born in Baltimore, MD in 1841. He was a New York City policeman. His father was Thomas Potts, birthdate and birth place unknown. His mother was named Katherine, last name, birthdate and birthplace unknown. Margaret was born
in Omagh, Co. Tyrone in 1856. Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Hugh Campbell of Co. Tyrone, born in 1812. Thomas Hugh owned townland in Rathfraggen (spelling?). His wife was Jane Kennedy, presumably born in Co. Tyrone but only the death date of 1893 is known.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi!
I am trying to find some information on my grandfather, Charles Henry Goetz. His mothers' name was Marie Potts. She married Jacob Goetz. Those two had three children: Charles (my grandfather), John, and Catherine. The only information that I have is that my grandfathers' brother John had passed in 1976 and I am not to sure when his sister Catherine passed, but my grandfather had passed in 1966.
I was just curious if you know if there were any Goetz's that married into your side of the Potts family. I have been trying to find information on both the Goetz and Potts families and I haven't had much luck. So if you know of anything that could help me, please contact me as soon as you can. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you for your time.

My mother gave me a "family" history that was found in the effects of her Aunt ( b. 1903). This was given to My Great Aunt by her Aunt (born 1895) and compiled (from internal evidence) around 1920.
"Joseph and Mary Hoy married in about 1735. Their daughter Elizabeth Hoy married Jonathan Potts about 1760. ( I think there is a skipped generation here; considering what follows-my note))
Thier children were Cy, Charlie, Jackson, Joseph, Jonathan, Louisa Jane ( who was born in Union county Kentucky, March 17, 1830) Mary, Sarah (Sallie), Rebekah, and Margaret. Louisa Jane Potts married Nathaniel Green Hendrix in 1848."
All notes in parenthisis are original to the ms. except where noted. This family lived in Cass County Mo. Associated familes include the Vestals, and Lowerys. Is anyone familiar with these families?

My Potts were in Missouri by 1843 and before that resided in Union county, Ky. Elizabeth Hoy/Heig/Hoag Potts was born in Pa. in 1808 and married a Jonathan Potts in Ky.
Their Grandaughter married a Vestal in Mo. My interest in the Louden county Potts centers around the name Jonathan, which was common to that group and the intermarriage of Potts and Vestals of that county.
Are any of these Potts known to have removed to Kentucky; specifically Union county; and are any of them known to have a Jonathan born about 1805 that they can't account for.

Hello!
I am specifically looking for anything on # viii. James POTTS, b. 10 Feb 1845.
Does anyone have his wife, his kids? I'm told I link to him through a son, Robert Earl POTTS, b. 02 Sept 1867 in PA; d. 17 Dec 1943 in WV, but I cannot find anything firm.
I'm also informed that this James POTTS was likely married to Elizabeth (probably BAKER?). 1870 Census count for Beaver Co., PA, showing James, age 24; Elizabeth, age 24; Robert, age 2, and Richard, age 1.
I don't know if this is the same individual, but if it is, then son Robert's age (02 age 1870) might fit. Any clues?
The trouble is that I have been unable to ascertain exactly *where* Robert Earl POTTS I was born, and where he died. We know he is buried in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester, Hancock County, WV, but that's about the gist of it. Robert Earl POTTS I (my great-grandfather) lived in the tri-state area of WV, PA, and OH, remaining in each state for a few years before moving across the river to the other state, etc. The family did live in Beaver Co., PA, for several years.
My Robert Earl POTTS I married (1) Charlotte Victoria BENNETT. Apparently, she was born in WV, according to the 1910 Census. I have nothing on her parents, etc. She died ca. 1914, in childbirth. (2) was Ellen BURGESS.

Dear Al Potts,
My Potts family search....for Isabella "Miss Belle" Potts....I believe she married a man named Potts before the Civil War. In 1866, she married Henry Harvard in Dooly County, Georgia. Their grandson, B. Marvin Harvard is my father in law. We have searched and searched but can't seem to find a direct link. She attended LaGrange Female Seminary, LaGrange, GA before the Civil War...and Marvin believes she came from an affluent family north of Atlanta. I've contacted the school, but have no firm lead as to her family name.
Do you have any information about Potts in GA, or know of anyone who researches them ?

This information about David Potts and the time frame, is interesting. My Benjamin Potts was in Bath (Augusta) Co., VA., about 1792, moving to the Jackson River. All I know is his father was also Benjamin and that they lived in Pottstown or Pottsville PA, and then Maryland. I have been watching all of these messages and I know that some of the old history are not what they are represented. For one thing this Thomas Maxwell Potts book, interviewed Joel Potts, and not once is it represented the family of Ellis Potts. If anyone would care to look at Joel Potts in 1850 in Cass Co. Ill census you would see a family of Ellis Potts. No mention of that name is ever made. In 1860 in Christian Co. Ill you will see the name of Ellis Potts very close to Joel Potts, who is in the Thomas Maxwell Potts book. In later census you can check on Joel Potts of Shaprsburg Twnsp and you will see the name of Margaret Robb. Who is Margaret Robb, a housekeeper of Joel Poots, but who is the daughter of Ellis Potts, who died in 1872. No mention of him of any descendants. Elllis Potts was the son of Margaret and David Potts, lived in Mercer Ky in 1820. The history has left out name and thinks it will be ok, but it is not. Any Potts researcher should go and get the will of the David Potts Sr. who died in Mercer Co. There is another will that mentions David Potts and his wife Margaret,! ! this David is the father of Ellis Potts, who lived in Ky until 1838 then moved to Indiana. by 1850 he is living in Cass Co. Ill next to Joel Potts. When Joel Potts moves to Christian Co. 1860, Ellis Potts is there also. I have a letter dated from 1864 to Margaret Robb, elder daughter of Ellis Potts, who later was a house Kepper of Joel Potts, from Catherine Cundiff, who was my gr gr grandmother, later marrying a Brown asking about the family of her father. No where in this line do I ever hear about where does Ellis Fit in, nor do I hear about the descendants of Joel Potts saying that there is a mystery about this family.. But I am here saying that Thomas Maxwell Potts didn't have it all together, and there is probably a lot of loop holes in his book.

I would like some help finding a relative who has left many of us in the family mystified. We can not seem to get past him to earlier times. James T. Potts, born 1816? in North Carolina. He married Louise (Lula) M. Thornton, 29 Sept. 1837, in Monroe Co., Mississippi. James T. is my gr.gr.grandfather. The birth records of his children show him in MS, AL,and GA. He lived in AL at a place called McFall-Estabago, near Cain Creek, where family stories say he owned 9 ore mines. All his children were born of his first wife - Lula. His second wife was Stacey Womack. Information passed to us says that the family believes the T. in his name stood for Tanner, the name he supposedly went by. It was said that hetraveled through New Orleans regularly on business trips
The information as we have it is His brothers and sisters are:
William Milford Potts
Adaline (Addie) Potts m. Cad Finley of VA
'Zachary Taylor Potts m. Florence Fox of TN
George Potts lived in Red Rock TN
Julia Potts
J.M. Potts (?)
Children of James and Lula
Nancy Catherine (Kit) b.1843 in MS, m. Henry William Lawson
William Milford, m. Sue Bullock
Rufus Brevard (my gr. grandfather) b. 1850 in GA, m. Matilda Yeary
JoAnn, b. 1862 in AL, m. ______ Allen from MS
Elizabeth, b. 1863 in AL, m. Andrew Todd
Josephine, m. Carroll Winston (or Winstead)
Daughter, name unknown, m. Tom Faulkner, a lawyer from St. Louis
Daughter, name unknown, m. Ike Pollard, a lawyer from New York
I would appreciate any information on any of these family members. This line has been a very tough one to research. Thank you. Desiree (Potts) Perrault, Washington State.

Subject: [POTTS-L] POTT FAMILY, Macclesfield/Birkenhead

From: "Derek Pott" (DEREK)
I have recently joined the list and would like to state my interests. I was wondering whether anybody out there has any connection with or information on any of the following:
Frederick Fore POTT (born Macclesfield 1850) of 64 (later 72) Old Chester Road, Tranmere, Birkenhead married Mary Ann Elizabeth JACKSON of Humberstone Road, Leicester at St. George's Church, Leicester on 10 June 1875. He was a chemist while his father, Thomas Pott, was described on the marriage certificate as a silk manufacturer.
Thomas POTT (born 1823) married Priscilla FORE at St. Peter's Church, Prestbury on 7 June 1847. Thomas was also described as a silk manufacturer on the marriage certificate and was residing at the time in Sutton. His father's name was David POTT, a farmer.
I have been unable to go back any further in my research although I have a record of the birth of 3 David's whose age could make them candidates to be my ggggrandfather. They are as follows:
1. There is a baptism at Macclesfield Parish Church of David, son of Josiah and Margaret POTT of Macclesfield on 18 Nov 1792.
2. According to information from the IGI, a David POTT was baptised in Mellor, Derbyshire, on 13 October 1799.
3. There is also a David POTT, son of Ralph POTT, referred to in the IGI baptised at High Street Presbyterian, Stockport, Cheshire on 15 June 1793.
Any information would be appreciated.

From: David McCAIN (DAVID)
Hello Potts family searchers:
Am hoping this reaches someone-have had no response since I subscribed last weekend, but here goes. Through a fluke, I learned that a Nelly (Eleanor) POTTS and one James COFLIN (COFFLAND) were mar. 21 July 1801 in what was then Berkeley Co. VA. The POTTS name, the marriage date and place were new pieces of information which opened all kinds of possibilities.
Their first born son was named Lancelot and I found that one Lancelot Potts had immigrated to Virginia in 1719, nothing more than that. There was a John Potts owning land in that county in 1767 (then Frederick Co.)and an another piece adjacent to the owners of land that became part of Martinsburg, the county seat. A Will. Coffland from Stafford Co. VA was a soldier under one of those owners in 1755 &1756. Eleanor & James Coffland's second son was named John and another one down the line had the middle name of William. (Both John & William are pretty common names, so not too unusual ).
Does anyone out there know of these families, anyone tied in to them any where along the line?
I read all the queries on line for the surname Potts via the Family Tree Maker links, but didn't find a match. Will share what I have on Cofflands if there is any interest. Thanks

It was said John married Rhoda HOLT. I do not know if any of this is so at this point & would like to confirm the info. I do know the following....
George Washington POTTS b. Abt 1865 in Dickson County m. Florence BRUCE from Hickman County. They had the following Children. (Not sure of which order & their spellings)
Melissa , Ernest, Alex "Monroe", John, Annie, Henry Russell or Russell Henry "Cricket", Luther, Christine, Eugene, Jake, & some that passed never known possible Grace or Gladious. Maybe Twins.
I am at ends here and getting desperate. It seems George just disappeared. I try to contact Dickson County, but nobody replys. Do you have any POTTS' in Tennessee? We were always told we were Indian descent. I have Cy Potts looking also. This is my brick wall I guess, but I only got two generations on this side, me & my father. They had the following children that I know of: Rufus Brenard or Brevard, JoAnn, Nancy Catherine "Kit", William Milford, Elizabeth, Josephine Lydia, and 2 unknown female POTTS. The 2 unknown females married Ike Pollard and Tom Faulkner who were both lawyers. Please let me know if there is a possible connection to any of these people. Also supposedly this line connects to Erasmus Ferdinand or Ford Potts the founder of POTTS CAMP, MS.........nothing to prove it as of yet.

It's been about a year since I sent out feelers on this topic, which is a major brick wall! I am searching for the ancestors of my paternal grandmother, Beulah Potts. Beulah married Shelby Lemon Walker, who was born in Martin County (?), IN in 1885. Beulah was born January 7, 1891, location unknown. The couple had 8 children. Shelby died in 1948, and Beulah later remarried Elmer Lowman, of Claypool, IN. Beulah died in January, 1976. Does anyone have any connections with Beulah Potts?

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Potts. My dad Percival Enos Potts died 13 years ago when I was 10 years old. Much of the family's died as well until I recently found your website, as well as some documents that my dad was putting together regarding our family tree. My granddad's was Percival Alexander Potts he was a Spaniard, and a contractor/builder. He died in Cuba. His other brothers I understand went to Nicaragua and the USA where they went into the movie/show biz. My granddad's father's name was William Alexander Potts.
My question to you is, if my family's origin is Spanish , why is Potts English. I was told that the name was translated, what then was the original and how can I find out about my ancestors in Spain.?
Please reply quickly. Thank you.
Elizabeth.

Jennie Isabelle Potts married my g-grandpa James Franklin (Frank) Works on 3 January 1882 in Itawamba County, Miss. (Second Wife--Martha Patton was wife No. 1) Jennie was 47 years old and he was 67 years of age when they married. On 18 November 1884 their only child, Jesse Arlanda Works who married Willie Jane Dulaney, was born. Had Jennie been married before? To whom? Her parents? I've heard she was also known as Jennie Isabel Wooldridge. At one time they, lived in Prentiss County, Miss. Martha Patton and her seven children are listed in 1880 Federal census for Prentiss Co., Miss. Wonder if g-grandpa got a divorce...Any info sincerely appreciated.

Does anyone have an index of Potts Surname to the Georgia 1870 Index?? I went to the library to research, and the writing on Floyd Co., GA Census was so light it wasn't readable. I would appreciate it if someone could see if they have this. I need to find the parents of Charles/Charlie Washington POTTS.
I did copy the information from the 1880 Census Soundex for Georgia. I still need to type it into my word program (when I can get the program to act right) and will have it posted onto the Georgia Archives Page. I can do lookups for now if anyone needs it.

Mattie POTTS m. September 28, 1873 Haywood Co., TN to George W. BAKER b. December 1849 TN d. 1909 TN. Haywood Co., TN marriage license, bondsman J. L. WILKINS. Son John Thomas BAKER b. June 28, 1874 Malesus, Madison Co., TN. George W. BAKER, believed to be son of William M. BAKER of southeastern Madison Co., TN. In 1880 U.S. census, George is listed widowed or divorced living with his father William in Madison Co., TN. Due to poor condition of census records, John Thomas BAKER never found in 1880 census. Is Mattie dead or are they divorced?
By the 1900 census, George BAKER is in Hardeman Co., TN remarried to Catherine "Cattie" MULLEN with son William Guy BAKER b. October 12, 1884 TN. Family story goes that both John Thomas BAKER and his father George died of typhoid in 1909 in or near Uptonville, Madison Co., TN. No tombstone has ever been found for George or Mattie. I believe John Thomas BAKER to be their son, though I have no proof of this.

I am researching the Potts family. Said to be in TN, AR, AL, & GA. I am requesting that if anybody has children that just show up in there POTTS family, to email me as... My oldest Potts born sometime around the 1830 - 1840 believed to be in GA. was taken in by a Potts family and given that surname sometime around the Indian Removal in GA. He is believed to be raised in TN and later moved to AR. My younger William Potts (older Potts son) died and the children were taken in by others in TN around the early 1900's. One family is believed to be a Duggar (may be spelled differently).

By about 1820, the family had settled in either Adams or Brown County, Ohio. I have found members of the familyl in that area -- all except Hiram. Hiram Potts married at least twice that I know of. His first wife was Sarah RUSSLER, also born in PA; and his second wife (my ggm) was Sarah Adessa WHITE CLEAVER, born either in SC or NC about 1830. I have all information on Hiram's children, but have no proof of his birth, marriages or parentage. All input much appreciated, and I will be glad to share details as requested.

Thank you so much for your reply. I checked the Potts file and did not come up with any new information on my Jonathan. The Jonathan I am researching was born in 1754 and removed to Jefferson Co. Ohio, settling on land he received from his service during the Revolutionary War. He married Elizabeth English in 1788. Subsequently they had 12 children including Lydia Potts (my ggg-grandmother). Lydia Potts married Thomas Bolen (II). Thomas Bolen's father and mother were Thomas Bolen (I) and Mary Potts, presumably of Loudoun Co., Va. I guess at this point the information I am looking for is regarding (1)Jonathan's military service and (2) who in the world is Mary Potts and where did she come from? (3) and finally who is Thomas Bolen (I). I seem to be lost in a circle of Potts and Bolens. Do you have any answers to these questions (granted they are extremely vague)? I do intend to keep an eye on the website you gave me.

Just got this address and I'm trying to find out something about the Potts family history. Most of the Potts clan came from Salt Lake, Utah. Some where members of the Mormon church. There were five brothers and one sisters in my Father's family. They lived in Park City, Utah, when it was a silver mining town. My Grandfather was a Marshal in Park City, but I don't know the years. My Father when to High School in Park City and worked at the Silver King mine in the Summer. My Uncle, Vern Potts, was a druggist in Salt Lake. He owned his own drug store, but I don't know the address. If you can help me find out about any of my Father's family and maybe something about his ancestors, I'd certainly appreciate it. If I'm in the wrong place, please excuse me.

I believe that Rebecca Potts is my GG Grandmother. I found a church record that a woman by this name married my GG Grandfather, Joel Fisher, in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, PA, on 4/22/1848. The record stated that they were both from North Manheim Twp, Schuylkill County. I know for a fact that Joel did live in N. Manheim Twp, in fact the home is still there.
Joel lived 1825-1908, and is buried in Orwigsburg beside his 2nd (?) wife Judith. I know that Judith was not my direct relation because of info from my grandfather, Gordon Fisher (Joel's grandson). I have no idea what happened to Rebecca Potts.
Does anyone have info on this woman?
Thanks!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the list and would like to post my POTTS family.
My gggrandfather Thomas POTTS, christened 4/6/1800, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.
He married Mary WALLS, 7/15/1822 in Great Driffield.
Their children:
1. Richard POTTS, christened 11/27/1833, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.
2. My gggrandfather, Jesse POTTS, christened 6/16/1834, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.
Occupation: blacksmith. In 1881, he was living with Hannah WEST and they
had the following children:
Francis Lynton, Joseph, Alfred, Mary Alice, Emma, Charles, Susan, Amelia, Martha.
Joseph, Emma, Susan and Amelia emigrated to Canada in the 1880s. They changed their last name to POTTS. Emma, Susan and Amelia then went to Plymouth, PA. Emma later moved to Brooklyn, NY. Don't know where Joseph went.
Related family names: LYNCH, DODSON, BERKHEISER.
3. David POTTS, christened 3/7/1839, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.
4. William POTTS, christened 8/6/1841, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.
5. Joseph POTTS, christened 8/4/1842, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.
Jesse's daughter, Emma, is my ggrandmother.
Do any of these people ring a bell? If anyone is related, or knows what happened to the Potts family, I would love to know.
I'm sorry that this post was so long. Thank you so much for your patience.

Subject:: Hiram Potts (again)
From:(Ann Bergelt) AnnBergelt@aol.com
I've just subscribed to this surname list, although I believe I have previously participated at some levely stumbling block in the old family research is (naturally) my POTTS ancestors.
My great-great grandfather was Hiram POTTS. It seems no one else in the world of POTTS research has ever run across poor, lost Hiram!
Here's what I know about him.
Hiram POTTS was born in PA, approximately 1810. He married (1) Sarah Russler and (2) Sarah Adessa WHITE, who was previously married to Charles
CLEAVER.
There was a large family, his, hers and "theirs". Will provide names and details to anyone interested.
Hiram and families #1 and #2 settled in Northern KY, where he was first listed as a farmer, then later as a boat watchman. At Hiram's death in Campbell County Ky in 1884, his obit called him the "well known steamboatman".
Well, Hiram was so well known -- nobody's ever heard of him! I can assure you I have done many years of research on riverboats (there were several POTTS involved in that occupation).
Mr. Hubert Lowman, who has done extensive POTTS research of his own family, assures me that Hiram's father was Jesse POTTS and mother Hannah SPACHT/SPECHT/SPECK POTTS. They are said to have moved from PA to Ohio in the very early 1800's. I have found Hannah and Jesse in early census records there.
Unfortunately, because of the time of his birth, Hiram does not show up as a child named in a household with parents, so I still have no proof of his parentage. Hubert Lowman also indicated that Hiram's brother was named David, who married an Elizabeth Charles.
ANY further suggestions (I've tried them all, I think) regarding connecting Hiram to his lineage with documentation of some sort will be much appreciated.
By the way, where did the name Llangurrig, Wales come in? I have been to the market town of Llanidloes, Wales; and the people there say that the
Welsh
Quaker POTTS family is from that place.
Best wishes,
Ann Bergelt

You have a beautiful site with scads of data. I have spent hours going over some of it and still havent come to a conclusion as to the ancestry of Susanna Potts who married Thomas Spriggs before 1780. They resided in Old Tyron and Rutherford Co., N.C. He received some land grants there in 1779. Also about the same time he had guardianship of Jeremiah Potts who had previously been in care of Ezekiel Potts. The Spriggs moved to Greenville, S.C. before 1790. Their oldest son was Ezekiel Spriggs and had a son Jeremiah Spriggs. Do have any idea who my Susanna Potts parents are? Do you have any data on the Potts of Rutherford Co and Old Tyron Co., N. Carolina?
Thank you most kindly for any help.

From: "VincentE.Summers" <vsummers@nrao.edu>
Forgive me for using so caustic a subject header, but it is a source of some difficulty, in searching for my POTTS connections, and I figure might help someone to particularly recognize this line.
>From England came a woman with maiden name WEST, given name Anna or Hannah. She had had a number of children by a POTTS, probably named Jesse. He may or may not have come to the United States with her. They were not married for a number of years, and may never have married. The children took the name of POTTS. One child is given credit to have been born to POTTS during the time Hannah (who came to this country in 1890) was married to Richard KINGDON. These POTTs and KINGDON were in Luzerne for a while, and then some came to Camden, New Jersey. Richard and Anna were married 5 years at the time of the 1900 census. Some errors are likely present in the various census, etc., entered in their behalf. Most of them were also illiterate.
Can anyone help me with this line? I am currently involved with one researcher who is almost surely connected. The same house, at different times, was occupied by her POTTS and by my POTTS!
Thanks,
Vince Summers
