ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY FOR DISCHARGE Philipp B. Walterhouse of Captain Wm A. Chvate Company B of the 38th Ohio Regiment of United States Army was enlisted by Wm Chvate of the 38th Ohio Regiment of Vol USA at Napoleon, Henry Co., Ohio on the 19th day of August 1861, to serve three years; he was born in in the State of is forty four years of age, five feet nine inches high, dark complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 90 days. The said soldier was injured while acting as teamster for the Regiment by his team running away. I certify, that I have carefully examined the said Philipp B. Walterhouse of Captain Wm A. Chvate Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of an injury of the spine occasioned by being thrown from a horse in the act of running away on the morning of the 6th day of December 1861. Since which time he has been unfit for duty, nor will he be at any future time able to perform the duties of a Soldier.

EXAMINING SURGEON'S CERTIFICATE Defiance, Ohio Oct 5th, 1865 I hereby certify, That I have carefully examined Phillip B. Walterhouse late a private of Captain Kintighs Co. B 38th Regt Ohio Vol Inf in the service of the United States, who was discharged at Clifton, Tenn, on the 18th day of April 1862, and is an applicant for an invalid pension, by reason of alleged disability resulting from Injury of Right Hip. In my opinion the said Phillip B. Walterhouse in one half incapacitated for obtaining his subsistence by manual labor from the cause above stated. Judging from his present condition, and from the evidence before me, it is my belief that the said disability originated in the service aforesaid in the line of duty. The disability is temporary. A more particular description of the applicant's condition is subjoined: The applicant was kicked by a horse fracturing three ribs in the right and two on the left side. They trouble him but little. The right hip joint was injured which makes it painful both in stooping and walking. J.N. Thacker, Examining Surgeon.

Harley had been coon hunting with Vern Day the night he came down with an attach of ruptured colen. The family was living on the Irvin Shoots road at this time. The home is were Dorothy Sims now lives. The roads where so bad that they had to take him out to the Harding Highway (about 2 miles) on a sled. He must have been in great deal of pain at the time. He died the next day in the Marion Hospital. His body was returned to the home where he was embomied. The emboming took place in the bedroom on the first floor of the house. The wake was held in the home. Mom could only remember Hugh V. Smith being there and along with the family. The funeral was held in the Baptist Church at Morral, Ohio. When they family was living on the Oscar Murphy farm north of Meeker the home burned. The family lost all of their belongings. The neighbors attempted to get a large cook stove out of the house and it got stuck in the door blocking any attempt to get other belongings. Rowena said that she remembered waking up with night mares for months after the fire. The family was alway when the fire started and came home to find the house on fire. Eva raised the family alone after the death of Harley. The family had very little and obtained assistance from County Air to Dependent Children. Eva worked out by the day. The family raised gardens, pick berries (wild), gleaned corn to feed the family horse. Eva said she had to be both mothe and father, according to her daughter, Rowena, she played to parts well. She didn't remarried until all the children except Sally where out of High School. The family living in several places around Meeker during those years. The family was living on the farm just east of Meeker of the Hill when Rowena started to school. They did live most of the time in Meeker the last house on the south side of 309 east end of town. The home has since been torn down. Bert Potts and family moved into the home two houses west. Their son Gerald eventually met and married Rowena.

THE MARION STAR Lester M. Walterhouse, 60, a retired farmer died at 8 a.m. Monday at his home in Upper Sandusky. He had been in failing health for six years and seriously ill with Parkinson's Decease for the past eight months. Born March 22, 1895, in Wyandot County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Bertha Ellen Sheaffer Walterhouse. On Oct 27, 1920, he was united in marriage in Marion with Sara Olive Clixby, who survived. Surviving are two sons, Leo of Lorain and Whitney of Columbus, a granddaughter; and 10 brothers and sisters, Lowell, James, Russell and Mrs. Jesse Watkins all of Bucyrus; Mrs. Eva Gilglogly of Marion; Mrs. Leefe Herman and Mrs. Daisy Anderson, both of Mansfield, and Mrs. Juanita Halbedel and John, both of Upper Sandusky, and Mrs. Mary Aschbacker of New Philadelphia, one sister is deceased. Mr. Walterhouse was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Upper Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Evangelical United Brethren Church with the pastor, Rev. W.A.Tabbert, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.E.Wagner of Toledo. Burial will be made in Meeker Cemetery west of Marion. The body will remain at the Lucas Funeral Home where friends my call from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services.

Ronnie was born 7 June 1947. The date for the year we firgured out from when he graduated from High School. It is an interesting (and somewhat sad) story how Ronnie became a member of the family. Ronnie was about two or three when his mother left him with the family to "Baby-sit". She would pick him up on weekends. Gradually the mother began to fail to pick Ronnie up on weekends and it came to the point where she forgot all about him. So the Walterhouses became the only family he really had. He never knew his father. When Ronnie became a grown young man he found his mother living in Columbus, Ohio. More recently, in the past year or so Ronnie attended a reunion of his father's side of the family and they were very happy to see him. After serving in Vietnam, Ronnie went to work for the Post Office in Marion. He was married twice and has 3 stepchildren. He now lives in Cinncinati, Ohio.

Hicksville - Mrs. May Moore Campbell, 79, a former resident of Hicksville, died Tuesday in San Diego, California, where she resided since 1941. She was born May 31, 1895,(Social Security records give birth date at Aug 15) a daughter of Arthur and Estella (Philo) Weeks. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Lucille) Roan, Hicksville, and Mrs. Shirley Reed, Fort Wayne; a son, Robert Moore, Hicksville; a brother, Clifford Weeks, Hicksville; a sister, Mrs. Madonna Wineland, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
