Where there were no returns this could only mean that the officiator never recorded the marriage date. There was time that the marriage was recorded further back in the volume. In these cases two entries will appear on this list, one the license and the other record of the marriage. There were many times that the officiator recorded the marriage but forgot to enter the actual date of marriage. In these cases the entry date has been used as the marriage date.

The spelling of the names should be reviewed carefully. The handwriting was sometimes nearly illegible and other times the names were plainly misspelled. There were times when the spelling on the license entry differed from the spelling on the marriage entry in some of these cases these differences are noted. There were cases when the name on the license was different that the name on the marriage entry.

In volume five & six the person obtaining the marriage license may be a friend or a relative and not the person being married. Where there is not a mention of who obtained the license, the license would have been obtained by the groom. These names are noted in the marriage date column. The date in this column is the marriage date and not the date the license was obtained. Date of consent for females was 18 and males 21. Consent for those under age would either be the father, mother or guardian. When consent was obtained this would mean that the applicant was under age.
